Kirby didn't really deserve the award. He's a returning National Championship HC with the highly favored team to win another National Championship. Those that should have been really considered for that award is Shane Beamer, Brian Kelly or the guy from UT.

You could be right, but one important thing to consider is that Smart had a record number of players drafted last season and still turned around a perfect regular season, an SEC Championship (in blowout fashion), and a return trip to the playoffs without even going to the transfer portal to rebuild.

That is an unprecedented accomplishment. Look what Coach O. did after his natty and losing his players to the draft.

Let me ask you a question... who built UGA into what they are this year?

And is that not part of being a college coach.

Why do you think having crap to work with somehow makes a coach better. They're the head coach. They're supposed to make sure they aren't working with crap.

Too many times those voting for coach of the year feel like you do. It's why Saban has only won it twice in the last decade when he deserved it at least 4-5 times. Saban built Bama into what it is... he deserves credit for that in COY votes, not a penalty.
