I was just messing with you. That said… how many teams with equal records are ranked below a team they beat?

Probably a few. Some teams play solid games and just find ways to lose a lot at the end (cough cough Texas cough). That generally bumps them up a little, because their performance for 57 minutes of the game says "top 10 team" but their last 3 minutes leads to a loss.

And some teams get better as the season goes on - I'd say USC is probably in that group. Not convinced they are a "top 5 team" in terms of overall team quality, but I think they're probably better than #16.

Just a cursory glance, State and Ole miss are both 8-4 (4-4). Ole Miss is 15 and State 20
