Help me remember if Brian Brach was the only DB that played with passion

against LSU. Eli Ricks had a bad night, should’ve stayed in Red Stick. Golding has Missy State figured out, and that’s the only good start Ricks has at BAMA.
He’s a prototype modern CB and a head case. Similar to Savion Smith.
Notice a pattern here?

Branch is the best in the back end by a long shot.

Koolaid played well IMO.
We need to stop blaming safeties when they get beat by a WR. The safety is gonna lose that matchup most of the time against a good receiver so it’s not on Hellams, it’s on the coach who put him there.

Correct, but both offensive and defensive coordinators lack creativity.

I didn't have a problem with either DB
The technique though seems to be either a guaranteed PI or completion on back shoulder throws
I remember days of HaHa Landon Eddie Jackson having enough range to get to deep passes... Not sure if Battle has that ability

Ricks didn't really have a bad night... We gotta stop singling out players.... this was poor effort for defense in 2nd half. WE stopped caring and got sloppy in 4th and in OT>

Both of our safety's are ordinary at best. Branch should take one of those spots and give someone else a try at Branch's spot.
We're weak in ILBer and the interior DL is average. Add in the DC and that is a tall order to overcome.

Everyone keeps saying #9 is good but I haven't seen him make one play this year.
#2 is a good run defender but a poor pass defender
Kool-Aid is a future NFL CB

Kool-Aid needs to move to safety in 2023.

For whatever reason , we play more safeties in coverage than anybody I know instead of playing that #3 and #4 corner . Both LSU TD passes were covered by safeties if not mistaken . Battle , Hellams , Branch, Moore give up big plays when we can least afford them

I'm curious. I couldn't tell from live action or replay from the TV angle, but who got beat on the OT 2 point play? Just wondering.

Looked like Battle or possibly Devonta Smith . Not sure

Battle is really slow. And his instincts aren't showing up at all so without that he's just an average safety

I just watched the final play for the first time since Saturday night and it was impressive that Battle got there as fast as he did because he had to run through 4 dudes basically to defend the pass. I am not an Xs and Os guy but it seems like they should have passed Mason off to Ricks since he was on the outside, and let Battle take one of the other two WRs that were on the line? Idk, that was nearly an impossible play for Battle to make.

It is and that should be an automatic pass off.
But like I said both Offensive and Defensive coordinators lack creativity.

We don’t have any dogs in the secondary. These guys would all be backups in previous years.

Actually if they play press man, none of it matters as the qb can’t make the pass unless it’s perfect to the back of the end zone.

That wasn’t the first time they ran that play that night. We didn’t keep them from getting 5+ on it every time. Closest it was covered was the 2 point play.
From film study I have zero doubt they knew who would cover whom, and there was zero chance he could keep Taylor from getting into the end zone with a decent throw.
