Anyone else agree that defensive recruiting, mainly at DL, but also at ILB and S, has lead to the decline of the Bama defense?

Bama has had trouble constantly landing elite DL, ILB and safeties the last 5 or 6 recruiting classes and its clearly showing on the field. Really is has been showing for the last 4 or 5 years.

The main problem, Kirby Smart. He has been landing the most, but not all the defensive studs that mostly used to go to Alabama.

Bama hasn't had a elite defense since 2017, two years after Kirby left and that defense was filled with players Kirby recruited on defense.

Bama just don't get those alphas or dogs on defense anymore that they used to and its clearly showing.

If we are talking newer players I think Lawson, Oatis, Turner, Braswell all play well. Our scheme doesn’t help them really at all. Ricks seems to be a bright spot, some of our safeties will be gone and I think that’s a good thing.

None of this is true. Look at the recruiting rankings. The players have been recruited. Go look at the recruiting rankings per position. These players just went to the national championship last year. Jesus some of you guys have a short memory.

You are forgetting that 2018 heralded the beginning of the defensive genius known as Peter Golding. That’s had “just a little” to do with where we are defensively. The hot dog man at the stadium could run a better defense than Golding.

Sites that put out recruiting rankings try to sell subscriptions to fan bases.

If I run a college football recruiting website, I'm looking at which fan base brings in the most revenue and . . .

I just looked at Goldings resume. While it’s nice to find a diamond in the rough, you have to wonder wtf was Saban thinking.

Two years ago, we had players that are still on this roster that looked NFL ready. Moore, Branch, Anderson and Battle come to mind. We thought Smith was a somebody. Remember that? When was the last time you saw any of those guys make a play?

Golding (and Saban) outsmarted themselves. They changed the scheme this year instead of letting guys grow into what they were already doing well. Guys in their 3rd if not 4th year in a system should never look lost. We can’t even get the right guys on the field out of a timeout. Pre-snap on the 2 point conversion we weren’t lined up correctly. How is that even possible. The formation screamed sprint right option. If anybody on this planet has seen that formation in a big spot before, it’s us right? Koolaid, Ricks and Battle are screaming at each other. Why!! Why don’t they already have their coverage? LSU didn’t even bother to change the play. Did anybody else notice that. They were about to run that play before we called timeout. That’s embarrassing.

This is coaching, not kids. Not once this season have I seen 11 guys pulling in the same direction. Not once. Feel free to prove me wrong. Juniors and seniors all over the place late, confused, guessing, out of position. Teams get better in November not worse. This goes all the way to the top. But I’m a die hard. This year is a wash. I trust Saban will figure this out. They tried to bury him 8 years ago. It ain’t over.
