I always thought Montana to Rice.

But maybe I'm old.

I will fight anyone who says Steve Young was better than Joe Montana.

Boy, Montana or Young and Rice, they are right up there.

This.

It was the most lethal combo in the NFL and the original Tecmo Bowl.

EtA:

Cecil Isbell and Don Hutson were a pretty good pair as well.

In 1942, Hutson had NFL records of 1200+ yds, 74 receptions and 17 TDs. Rice, after his own retirement, once said Hutson was the best WR in pro football history.

Isbell split time as QB and RB (led the team in rushing and passing his rookie year), but he set records in 41 and 42 as QB. First pro QB over 2,000 yards passing and set record with 24 touchdown passes in 42. His 23 consecutive games with a passing TD stood for 15 years and stood at Green Bay until 2003.

Pretty amazing given the style of play back then.
