That is when I graduated.
Will it ever be finished? Is it all according to some kind of plan?

I’d be interested in knowing who’s doing all the financing.

That’s every college campus in America. Construction is constant

They’ve ruined the downtown area imo. It stinks and makes me sad.

I don’t understand what is driving it. Has AU increased enrollment that much? Or are they mostly gameday apartments?

City makes their calls not university in a lot of the new spots off college Street and downtown

I remember a time when the city council agreed to a 50’ moratorium. They may have kept that in place in favor of more downtown apartments. Disgusting.

Pretty sure they put another on more apartments but might be wrong.
I also heard that the university is planning to demo the amphitheater in the future

Honestly, the city is ran by a couple of people who own everything. When I lived there, the city hired college kids to city plan. Money has influenced all the off campus development.

They hired college grads. Not college kids. And those people are constantly moving on to other jobs.

You don't understand development?

You are the one asking the dumb questions. It is pretty simple what is driving development around the University.

I honestly don’t get some of you who have to ‘win’ on anonymous message boards.
I asked because I wanted to know. Is enrollment up substantially? Is it retirees? Is it gameday apartments? Is there a document somewhere that lays this out in specific detail that is easy to access that we should all know about?
Shame TD doesn’t allow us to block users, we would never have to see each other again

I’d be interested to see how AU compares to others over the last 23 years. I’m guessing it is a high amount compared to most.

AU keeps demolishing a lot of dorms (Hill dorms) and students want to live near downtown -> this attracts developers. AU has plans to build 1 or 2 new dorms (Haley concourse) but it will mostly focus on new academic buildings in the future (massive new STEM research center). Many past and current projects are expansions and additions (Mell, Graduate Business school. Engineering, Central dining hall), replacements (new ACLC building will replace Parker and parts of Haley and ), and new athletic buildings (FOF). I think its mostly about upgrading now,
Other development: They are currently building a major apartment complex near CVS (downtown). However, it won’t be “luxury student apartments” and mostly available to young families, not just students. Some new downtown hotels are currently u/c and a new smaller apartment complex (Target building).
The Heart of Auburn project will bring 423 units with about 734 beds south of the current commercial component that includes CVS Pharmacy. All by one parcel at the corner of Samford Avenue and South Gay Street will be redeveloped.
Reports say Auburn is the fastest growing large city in Alabama. Census data shows the population in 2010 was just north of 53,000. Now, its over 76,000.

Anecdotally, based on college tours of relatives, I don't think the boom is unique to AU.
A lot of money from helicopters over the years.
But AU is science and math so hopefully OK.
