My German Shepherd is pretty neutral unless he gets wet, but we used to have a Bluetick and her musty smell was just perpetual. Dunno about other hounds, tbh. The Mrs. has all the dog knowledge in this house.

I have a mutt coon now, lets say he can get pretty ripe
Fortunately if a drop of rain hits his nose he heads inside to the bed. When he gets wet he gets really ripe.
