last year for him?

quote:

Very reliable sources have informed 3SIB that Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer WILL NOT be retained at the end of the season. Likely, an announcement won’t be made until after the Kentucky game.

Obviously, take this for what it’s worth. But in the world of rumors, this is one that we’re confident enough in to throw out there on our blog. We know we’re sticking our neck out there. We’re honored to know people in high places — and people who know people in high places — and this is concrete enough that we’re comfortable reporting it.

Is firing Fulmer the answer in Tenn? He has done so much for the program up there. It is so hard to find a stable coach in the SEC these days because the pressure/competition.

He is one year removed from the SEC Championship game, won a national championship, and built UT into an elite program. He lacks the right personnel this year, so all the blame cannot be thrown on him. I have personally spoken to their new offensive coordinator, and although he is young, he seems to have the right attitude and scheme to win in the SEC. He implied that he does not have the right players to play in his system at this moment, which we all know takes more than 1 year to set up. Why not give the man 1 more year to see if he can get it turned around?

Yeah, I was in Knoxville last month and the overall feeling I got was change was needed. Apparently there are a large number of donors who never agreed with the hiring of Fulmer in the first place. I can compare it to Ole Miss getting rid of Coach Cut. Stability over flashy? Who knows.
