Well it is arrogance, and to most people it comes off as hostile.

You've got to have some kind of way to continue to motivate yourself when you're a peak performer. For him, maybe it works to consider it a personal challenge whenever someone lines up across from him.

He's not just trying to be good. He wants to be the best at his game. You can't develop that kind of attitude without some arrogance coming with it. Some people just externalize it a little more.

Context is still everything though. This response was from a question about “hateful competitors” that Saban referenced a couple weeks ago. Many of the beat reporters have been asking players about this since. So Will Anderson didn’t just randomly state this. He answered a question relative to it. About his personal motivation.
