from Oxford. Go and get Lane. Of any younger coach in the SEC he’s the best hire right now.

Lane's not going there. He's going to Bama when Saban retires.

I honestly have no problem with that.

“ Lane's not going there. He's going to Bama when Saban retires.”

He may very well be going to Bama, but he would be crazy to do it. Whoever follows Saban has zero chance of pleasing the spoiled Bama fans. There will have to be a sacrificial lamb first and the inevitable dip in the program. It always happens.

I'd love to see it. More competition would level Bama out some and to see the Ole Miss fans melt would be

There's about 5 college jobs that Lane would realistically leave Ole Miss for at this juncture and none are open or expected to come open this year. We had a close call last year with Miami. If Cristobal stays at Oregon, Lane is likely the head coach at Miami.

In 2020, Lane and Auburn might have happened but at this juncture, it would be a terrible fit. Auburn boosters would not get along well with Lane. He does not care about them as Ole Miss has learned.

NFL is a different story.

No it doesn't. The same people left over from the Bryant age are long gone. Lane is not the type to worry about following Saban's legacy.

It would not. First of all, Bama hardly recruits head to head with Auburn in state anymore. Alabama recruits nationally and Bama gets most of the more desirable in state players.
The rise of Georgia, Clemson and some extent Texas A&M have "leveled" out Bama more than anything at Auburn would.

There isn't a coach in America who wouldn't take the Bama job if offered, Lane included. It's probably #1 on his list.

The Bama PTBs will not be able to control Lane. That will be something they look for since Saban took that away from them.

Not true. It's not like that anymore. Most of those people are retired now and are not running things.

I think Auburn needs to roll the dice on Hugh. He's a cultural fit and loves rubbing elbows with boosters. Hugh's biggest fault (from a professional standpoint) is that he does not take criticism well.

Hugh would drag his nuts across broken glass for the Auburn job.

Sure, we all know that is how it is. Just a bunch of obedient boosters hungry for directions from a coach. Some are just counting the days until Nick's retirement.

I think he would do well there. And why would AU care about image when they already have Bruce Pearl in the A. department.

Lane would win at least 3 NC's at Alabama. He would be a phenomenal replacement for Saban.
