I'd be so embarrassed if alumni of my school were calling athletes "blackie" just because they had the audacity of standing up against a statue on campus after a man nicknamed "negro killer"
But he himself didn't make that name, only everyone around him knew him as such. So that makes it better

THEY sent inexperience troops (who coincidentally were Black) under inexperienced officers against veteran Confederate troops under a veteran commander.
Yeah, the Confederates killed a lot of them. It was war, and that is the usual outcome when you send tyros against veterans, regardless of the ethnicity of either side.
