Why did we stop developing cerebral centers?

Saban won’t say the real reason to the media because he doesn’t want to hurt Dalcourt’s confidence. Every center we’ve had before him was one of the smartest players on the field and they knew not only their assignment but every other linesman’s assignment on every play. So, when the QB would make an audible those guys were screaming at the other lineman to get them set and in the right assignment. They also had the ability to call audibles just for the line. We need a smarter center.

What evidence do you have that Dalcourt's issues are mental? If he didn't know the blocking assignments he wouldn't be playing. His issue is that he gets put on skates by every big bullrusher DT he has ever faced.

You didn’t read my entire post. Dalcourt isn’t telling the other lineman what to do and neither is Mclaughlin. All of our previous centers, Vlachos, Barrett, Kelly, Bozeman, etc were slapping the guards on the shoulder pads when the crowd was loud and pointing to who they were supposed to block. The announcers used to talk about to during the games with all of these guys. Dalcourt never coaches the rest of the line.

Sounds like that is up to the coaching staff.

How do you know he's not making the calls at LOS?

Because I have eyes. Have you seen him making calls?

I think it’s likely in recruiting. Almost all of the guys I listed above were extremely football smart players who were undersized when they got to Bama and we took a year to get them up to size. Now we seem to get more physically ready than mentally ready. I assume that was a pendry plan because it’s changed since he left the field.

Yes I did. You have no evidence that Dalcourt doesn't know the blocking assignments. Now you're moving the goalposts to Dalcourt not communicating the blocking assignments adequately.

Young is the one setting protection. Maybe it's coach performance. It varies every year.

I didn’t move the goalposts. The whole point of my original post was our previous centers all set the protections. If Dalcourt or McLaughlin could do they would be.

You either didn’t read it or your reading comprehension sucks. See one post up.

I am not sure you don't understand that everything is on the coaching staff. We must have coaches that can Outsmart our opponents each week. We shouldn't expect the players to lineup and whip the person in front of them. No way.

Or maybe your take is just fricking stupid Gump bullshite. There's plenty of stuff to critique Dalcourt over without making baseless accusations about his intelligence.

How about smarter posts?

Do some of you even football? Are telling me our OL coaches don’t know shite? This is on them coaching the center what to do pre/post snap. A lot of that signaling is old school - you don’t even see that as much at the pro level. The playbook and film study at this level is extensive.

Some of you guys need to learn how to read and comprehend what you’re reading. I never said our current centers don’t know their assignment. I said they don’t know the other linemen’s assignments and every other center we’ve had under saban did. That’s the difference in the pass protection on the road in hostile environments.
