Good afternoon and happy Friday, everyone! Here are the results from the Week 1 power rankings polls. A lot of varying opinions between these two polls. Who should be number one? Should Mississippi State or Kentucky be ranked higher? Which poll do you think more accurately ranked 10-13?

Florida couldn't have asked for a better start to the Billy Napier era after an upset over #7 ranked Utah. But they can't get too comfortable - the schedule doesn't get any easier with a game against Kentucky on Saturday, and a trip to Knoxville in 2 weeks. Richardson will have to show his growth as a passer in order to prevent defenses from keying in on Florida's run game, and Florida's defense will continue to have to make key plays at key moments to make up for its lack of depth, particularly up front.

Arkansas - Looked pretty good in Week 1. Certainly some kinks to work out but it’s hard to be mad about winning and covering the Vegas line against a top 25 team who was in the CFP last year. Offense was steady but not outstanding. Defense had its moments but the secondary struggled once Slusher and Catalon left injured. Looking ahead to this weekend, most fans probably feel pretty good about it. Rattler didn’t exactly set the world on fire last weekend and the SCar running game looked abysmal. That being said, it doesn’t look like Slusher or Catalon will be available again this weekend, so Rattler may come out and look like the Heisman contender the media so desperately wants him to be. Seems like the hogs running game will be able to run all over SCar. I expect Arkansas to win, but I expect SCar to put up some points.

State. Crushed Memphis in a revenge game. Air raid looks sharp. Score was 35-3 with under 40 yards of offense for Memphis when we called the dogs off midway through the third. Up next is a road trip to a much, much improved Arizona squad, but we should still win by double digits.

Tennessee. Offense did really good. The jury still out on the defense. Although they only gave up 10 points, they did not have any TFL or sacks. The secondary gave up 260 yards. Playing Pitt at Pitt. If the defense shows up we should be okay..

Ole Miss dominated the first half against Troy with a two-headed rushing attack and great defensive line play. We took our foot off the gas in the second half in order to try and throw the ball more, and neither of the potential starting QBs set themselves apart. Dart had a solid day and really only made one mistake, Altmeyer didn't get enough chances for me to properly evaluate him. Central Arkansas comes to Oxford this weekend, and we should see much more of Altmeyer than we did Dart in this game (this is by design). Ole Miss will win big and be 2-0 before we head to Atlanta next weekend.

Razorbacks The Hogs held off a good Cincinnati team in a 7 point win, but showed a weak secondary in man coverage. Upcoming are the Gamecocks. Arkansas will probably go zone and should be able to get pressure on Rattler. I think the Hogs best bet is to contain Rattler and keep him from throwing on the move. I guess we'll see how Odom adjusts to having 2 starting safeties out as well.

Alabama steamrolled Utah State, 55-0. The Tide looked good on offense and defense, with the only blemish being a blocked punt late in the game. Alabama rolls into Austin, TX, this week to take on the Texas Longhorns. Unfortunately, kickoff is set for 11 AM so the atmosphere is going to be rather dull.

Very happy with Bama in week 1 vs a good Utah St team that returned a lot from a team that won 11 games last year. The pressure upfront completely negated any ability for Utah State QBs to do anything through the air. The Aggies threw for over 4000 yds and 40+ TDs last year. The depth and talent in the secondary only further complements the front half of the defense. Playing a young UT-Austin QB this week, expect more of the same. Bryce's confidence running the offense is tremendous. Great moves in the portal to acquire some help and experience, but the young talent is extraordinarily promising for depth going forward. Loved seeing so many players rotated in and get opportunities. Kudos to Prentice for working his butt off as a freshman to earning a starting role!

Kentucky Kentucky played it's typical soft game in Game 1 against a decent Miami team, but won easily. Offensive like was exposed as not being very good at pass protection, but a starter was out and we hope he will be back this week. Our running game was not used much, hoping that we were holding back most of our playbook. Florida looked better than expected by most people so the game this Saturday in the swamp should be a good one.

LSU- We did not do well. Special teams was lackluster, and we made just too many mistakes. FSU was not the push over we thought they were.

Alabama. They looked great. The defense didn't appear to have any holes and there is quality depth at each level. On offense, we need to see our runblocking improve. Bryce also had to scramble way too often. I don't know if that was due to WRs not getting separation or Bill O'Brien’s play calling. Brian has a history of being stubborn, not making adjustments in game, and calling slow developing plays. Next up is Texas. I fully expect Texas to struggle moving the ball due to our defense dominating their Oline. Will and Dallas should have a big day. Our defense should give us great field position, leading to us putting up around 50 points. I predict a 52-10 win.

Texas A&M The defense is still elite. The offense absolutely pushed the ball down the field. We’ve been hearing about this for 24 months and it’s finally happening. The problem is Ming made a few bad judgements and the OL played like shite which in turn ruined the run game. All fixable stuff. For week 2, the task for the defense is real. App State can move the ball. We gotta show up. I like this level of ramp up for before Miami and then conference play.

Arkansas: it wasn’t an arse whooping by Western Kentucky. It was actually an OOC top 25 win to start the season.

It seems Mizzou may have beaten one of the better teams in Louisiana this year? We beat the spread, something rarely done last year. All facets of the game showed improvement. Interior line run blocking needs work. Would like to see Cook go downfield more. Very conservative play calling in the 1st half, more aggressive offense in the 2nd. Very aggressive defense, have not seen that since before Pinkel retired. 2 breakdowns in coverage outside of garbage time, itself a sign of defensive aggression. Got a long week to make corrections. Fewer penalties. Luther Burden is a One Special Dude. Back to an old foe in Kansas State. I see a one score game either way. Get our receivers in space with the ball, and it's a very good day. If the line holds. If the running game keeps KState honest. If the defense maintains its controlled aggression. Make Martinez make plays. I want to see +2 turnovers. Rankings: 1 and 2 are clear. The rest . . . Gonna be a wild year.

Aggie ate it’s cupcake, took its time doing it but ate it nonetheless. Defense looks good, QB is still a point of nervousness. Appalachian state threw up big numbers vs UNC but is that because UNC has a terrible defense? We’ll find out this week I guess.
quote:
UGA - we dominated from the opening snap - I thought the Ducks would give us a better game, but they were just outclassed- next week is a snooze fest; moving forward we will be favored to win every week…

South Carolina might be the worst team this year.

These rankings are kinda skewed right now do to the strength of first game opponents and not really getting an idea of what some teams have to offer against a decent opponent. We’ll learn more going forward.
I have a hard time rating LSU too low because they played a team with a pulse for their first game. If they skull drug a cupcake we might be crowning them right now.
