My take on this is that when a coach has a super talented player who stars having issues, the coach has 3 choices:
1. Just let the player have his way so he won't leave.
2. Come down hard on the player to essentially run him off.
3. Find a way to thread the needle between 1. and 2., in other words make it clear to the player who is in charge but do it in a way the player understands/respects.
Saban apparently handled this just right.
If you giggle at Saban you must guffaw at Harsin.

He's a no nonsense hard nosed coach that demands accountability from players and his coaches. Evidenced by his mass exodus to the portal after last season and losing 50% of his coaching staff. Harsin felt Auburn needed a culture change and by God he made changes; some of which resulted in hurt feelings which lead to an internal investigation that went sideways due to social media.
Whether Harsin survives long enough to see the fruits of his labors remains to be seen.
