Im pushing 40. And college football has been my #1 thing (outside of family) i doubt ill ever quit watching. But the excitement factor has definitely been diminished over recent yrs. The playoffs were the first domino, i hate it, it sucks, it took away from bowl selection excitement, took away from regular season excitement, and further expansion will make it even worse. Now with NIL and transfers, its basically free agency. The kids will become bigger than the program, their already large egos will become bigger than life, because who can tell them what to do, theyl be making more than their coordinators. It is just a snowball heading for hell. For the first time in my life last yr, nfl was more enjoyable. Its always been a better product of football, but didnt bring that atmosphere of a college football game.. which also reminds me, all these (neutral site) games SUCK arse. I was browsing schedules for week 1 n saw lsu/fsu n was like dam thatl be fun. Then saw in superdome, immediately took excitement away. Game would be much more exciting in baton rouge. Who wants to play a game at a neutral site in the season n take away both home fan bases

The Tennessee guy gets it. College football is the greatest sport ever invented and we’re killing it slowly by whoring it out a little more every year. It’s not about the teams and the fans and the rivalries anymore. It’s all about the Benjamins. We want to kick out charter league members because they receive more money than they produce. And we want to replace them with schools based on the TV market they command. That’s some grade A bullshite right there. Well hell, let’s just extend an invite to Universidad Nacional de Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM for short) since it’s in Mexico City which is as large as New York and L.A. put together. You want eyeballs watching TV’s? There’s over 12 million there and they like futbol Americano AND they are definitely in the southern part of North America.

First it was expand to 12 teams so we can have divisions and a championship game under NCAA rules (for more $$$). Then it was the BCS (for more $$$) then more expansion for more TV markets (and more $$$) then the playoffs (more $$$). Now it’s free agency with the transfer portal so the rich get richer, NIL so the players are getting a cut and now more expansion for more $$$. We took in Missouri, for God sakes! Not because they identify with the SEC (heaven knows they have Big 10 written all over them) but because of the St Louis and Kansas City TV markets! My team is one of the haves, one of the blue bloods of the sport. You would think I would love this but I don’t, I hate it!

We are destroying the fabric and the essence of the game I love. Rose Bowl? DEAD! Who wants to watch the Big 10 participant beat up on the PAC leftovers? PAC 10, 12, whatever on life support. ACC is dead man walking. Big XII trying to position themselves to be a survivor. The SEC is one of the superpowers in the sport so we should be glad, right? I’m not. It carries the distinct unpleasant smell of NFL minor league.

You think maybe 10% of the players give a rat’s arse what color jersey they wear on Saturdays? You think any of them really love and care about playing for Alabama or Georgia or Tennessee? No, their only concern is who showcases them best to get them to The League and the biggest NIL check while they wait for their junior season so they can enter the draft. Rivalries don’t mean shite to these guys.

Division 1 college football has become a 2 tiered sport: the haves, and the have not’s. And the haves are a small exclusive club of about 20 teams. The other 90+ are just playing their role as cannon fodder for the haves.

The college football that I remember and love is being buried one shovelful of dollars at a time.

It’s been like this since I can remember. Even scholarship limits didn’t change it much.

Maybe the portal will help, but the same don’t change at the top it seems no matter what.

I just enjoy the games and look forward to basketball and baseball where we have a chance.
