I haven't watched it yet, so I don't have a proper summary. I'm watching it now.

Nobody seems to care, but I thought an interesting tidbit was near the end when he said 95 players on the roster have a NIL deal through their collective. That means every single scholarship player and 10 walkons have a NIL deal.

He told Josh Pate that Dan Jackson is still a walk-on, but getting his school paid for by an NIL deal.

He has some Peach State Bank billboards up in Gainesville that I’ve noticed.

Assuming they’re still up, there’s one on Thompson Bridge Road up north of the bridge and I believe one on Atlanta Highway near the railroad bridge.

Since his comments on the nil have been less than positive - thoughts on potential impact in recruiting?

THis is made up manufactured bullshite. Link me to where he said these horrible things yesterday at media days. The 30 minute video I watched showed him brag about how 95 players have NIL deals.

Shannon Sharp slams Kirby Smart over comments

quote:

“What I can’t accept is some young man getting $10,000 a month for four years or three years of college? That’s $120K a year. What do you think he’s doing with that? Is that actually gonna make him more successful in life? Because, I promise you, if you handed me $10K a month my freshman year of college, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. I believe that,” Smart said.

quote:

Smart noted at the outset of his remarks that he was initially a proponent of NIL deals, but he did not like how deals were being handed out to younger players. With the state of college football, NIL deals will continue to play a role in the sport.

Youve been duped.
And by shannon sharpe no less.

Kirby loves NIL.
He says it should not be a recruiting tool (which is against the rules). Lol

And i agree.
If i have limited resources (classic collective), i am directing them to the players on my team that i cannot enter the upcoming season without.

Im not throwing them at a bunch of high school kids (who although talented... arent going to contribute at a championship level for 2+ more years).

Kirby: People ask how does it feel to be the hunted? We don’t feel it here. Trust me, we’ll be the hunter

This was Sharp describing Kirby and not a quote attributed to Kirby????

quote:

Smart made those comments at the Texas High School Coaches Association convention. He had a problem with players making 6 figures per year (Via ESPN):

“What I can’t accept is some young man getting $10,000 a month for four years or three years of college? That’s $120K a year. What do you think he’s doing with that? Is that actually gonna make him more successful in life? Because, I promise you, if you handed me $10K a month my freshman year of college, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. 1) apologies for my confusion. The thread and link were SEC media days. I listened to the twitter on sharpe but didnt read the full link around it.

2) sharpe is following his butt buddies cue and going off by making a mountain out of a mole hill.

First, sharpe digs at kirby and his first contract. Kirbys first contract was less than richt (not more... which is in line with smart's comment). Kirbys contract was 10th in the SEC in 2016. Sharpe doesnt say any of this in his point because sharpe is a blowhard doing what his butt buddy wants him to do.

Second, kirby isnt wrong. Most people dont have a decent head on their shoulders until 25 years old (me included). Has anyone questioned why the NFL wont draft 18 and 19 year olds? One of the most well thought out businesses in the world doesnt want to go there. Not even with a minor league.

I dont blame anyone taking money offered. But i think georgia is approaching NIL in a much more sustainable way. Dont you?

Every coach is saying that. Because the rules require it.
Jimbo says it.
Saban says it.

I was confused on the source of the quote for Sharpe's tirade (i thought it was sec media days).

I dont know why you are confused by this company line taken by everyone associated with a specific university.

I agree. However, giving one of these kids $19 million at 21 isn’t really better than giving them $120k at 18. Easing them into money may work better than giving them millions.

I would guess this is more because of body development. An 18 year old has a vastly different body than a 21 year old. If it was just about money, the NBA and MLB wouldn’t draft 18 and 19 year olds.

Lol

If it is body development, dont draft the kid.

The NFL has specific rules in place preventing the draft of 18 and 19 year olds.

Good point
Edit to add that the average rookie is getting $700k if he makes a team (it may make more sense to use most common numbers vs a number for the #1 overall pick)

The NFL doesn’t give two shits about what players do with their money or if they’re mature enough to handle it. Also, please show me the rule where an 18 or 19 year old can’t be drafted. The only rule I can find is the one that at says a player must be out of high school for 3 years. No age.

Wrong. The NFL protects its brand harder than Disney protects copyrights.

You dont pay attention very well.
