I think that's a very fair assessment of the situation and one of the two major factors in Kelly's decision to move to the Bayou. The other being that his contract at ND was c. $7.5m pa through 2024 (and the ND AD refused to increase or extend it without a national championship trophy), and LSU offered $95m in total through 2032.

When this came out, the AD said he wasn't even given a chance to renegotiate with Kelly.
