Agreed. Last two times Texas won their opener was in 2005 and 2009. They made it to the championship series both years. Since, they're 0-4 in the opening round (2011, 2014, 2018 and 2021).

You get a day off regardless of whether you win or lose your first two games (and obviously the rest of the season off if you lose both). So it's not as imperative as starting 1-0 or 2-0 in a regional. However, it's still imperative to be in the catbird seat after 2 games and have your opponent be playing their 4th game as you play your third.
