And TBH, the night game thing was born out of practicality more so than just trying to create a tradition. They did it 1. to avoid the heat and humidity of daytime games early in the season and 2. to play in a different time slot than Tulane when they were still a good program. Add to that, AM 870 out of New Orleans has always broadcast our games and oddly it has generally been one of the most powerful AM stations in the country. So for a long, long time LSU was one of the only games on at night and that radio stationed reach a whole lot of ears around the country. I'm not even that old and I still remember being able to listen to LSU games at night as a kid before they were all on TV clear as day from Memphis, and I'll hear stories from time to time about guys telling me about listening to LSU games years back from a lot further away than that
