How did she go from 5th overall pick last year to coaching at a mid major?

Hadn’t seen anything other than praise for her being hired on as a coach…

Probably realized the WNBA doesn't pay for shite. Getting into coaching probably provides a lot more stability as far as income.

I was thinking this but isn’t wnba basically a summer league? Could do both.

May 6th- Aug 14th…

Finals were done last year by mid October… with the season ending a month later.

Damn. That sucks. At least someone is giving her a shot getting into coaching. Gotta start somewhere.

Good point. Didn’t someone coach on our team last year that was also playing in the WNBA?

Because #5 pick in WNBA is meaningless if you go to a team with 3 top 5 draft picks in the same draft. The coach then doesn't play you.

quote:

This was always a difficult league to make, with just 144 women across 12 teams. Now it is even more of an uphill climb to make a roster, with the number of total players in the 130-range as many teams elect to carry less than 12 players to fit under the team salary cap, which is a hard cap that franchises can’t go over, unlike many other sports leagues.

Basically no place to play and many top picks/rookie of the years get cut.

Makes sense when your whole league is subsidized.
