The Big 12 is moving its tournament to Arlington this year and the contract runs through 2024. Of course there may not be a Big 12 in 2024, so who knows?
Globe Life Field would be a fantastic place to host the SEC tournament. It's not a bandbox, the way Minute Maid Park is. It probably plays more like the Omaha park -- minus the headwinds -- than any of the SEC's alternatives.
Why play it indoors? Because there's always a chance the temperatures in Hoover will climb to 90 degrees or more. But mainly, playing at Globe Life Field would assure there would be no rain delays or postponements.
The place is a gem. Plenty of creature comforts. Escalators and elevators. Sit-down restaurants on every level. Two giant video boards. Abundant parking (the Cowboys stadium is right next door).
A second hotel will be finished right next to the stadium by the end of this year, so there will be four good hotels within walking distance, plus another dozen or more within a short drive.
Adjoining the ballpark is Texas Live, which has bars, places to eat, big TVs all over the place. It's perfect for pre or post game.
The main thing, of course, would be the idea of breaking that chain that exists between the conference office and the state of Alabama. There are some nice big cities in the SEC footprint -- Nashville, Memphis, St. Louis and now Houston, DFW and Oklahoma City. Why get stuck in Hoover every year?
