I don't see how that is a valid retort.

The WR I mentioned, Ladd McConkey, redshirted for one season in 2020 and immediately put up 447 yards and 5 TD's in 2021. He's not a Senior who's been sitting on the bench for 3-4 years and "developing". That was simply an amazing find on a literal no-name recruit by a team that has no problem landing "4-star" WR's.

You can look at this even further. The OL we were trying so hard to flip from Georgia (RyQueze McElderry) is a 3-star. Georgia landed his commitment on November 30th, 2021. Bama "offered" him on November 19th, 2021 (although his offer wasn't committable). We didn't even offer him until January 26th, 2022. So again, both of these schools were WELL ahead of us to the punch for a 3-star OL. They identified him earlier. Sure Brian Harsin is new and blah blah and learning the landscape, but the point is that it's a silly proposition to assume that we can somehow unearth elite "3-star" talent while these other schools can't.

What makes these schools so scary is that not only do they land elite talent, but they're very very good at evaluating that elite talent and ALL talent. Saban doesn't just look at 247.com and pick his recruits based off their rankings, that's why most of their elite recruits end up actually playing like elite recruits.

It also may explain why Gustav's classes were deceptively high in the composite rankings - he got the "elite" prospects that the other schools either didn't pursue with as much vigor or passed on altogether, because they were far better at evaluating talent. A lot of those guys ended up as non-contributors at AU.

Unfortunately it appears now that Harsin can't even get the overrated guys to consider us.

Why? If we are examining on the whole, their success with 3* players, it is probably the biggest factor IMO. If you are able to hand pick select 3*'s and let them develop properly, they will generally be more successful than the ones that a team had to settle on to fill a need because they missed on another player and have to use before they are ready.

Okay? That is one player. Your initial comment was to those programs being more successful with their 3* products. Do you think this one example is the norm or the exception?

Have I purported this at all? I merely stated that the biggest reason they are as successful with the 3* guys they get, is because they have the luxury of being able to hand pick them purely on scouting and not having to factor in a position need, then let them properly develop.

Cool I guess? Not really sure what point you are trying to make here as it has nothing to do with my comments.
