I am not gonna disagree with anyone that says this staff is missing elite talent. But Gus and his guys would just not recruit a backup type guy if we missed on the original target. That's part of the reason we are where we are. I like the fact we are at least trying to take a prospect at OL. Harsin will need to prove he can develop and actually coach football before we are getting top HS talent.

I mean, we signed just 1 OL last year and have just 1 OL committed currently. The results really aren't any different. They've already let multiple "backups" go elsewhere (Clay Wedin, Ian Geffrard) which now looks like a mistake. So we're actually now scrambling to find the backups to the original backups.

Sure, they're going to sign some OL...because they literally have to given how many guys we're losing this year. But this recruiting doesn't look any different than anything under the previous staff. In 2020 Malzahn signed Zierer and Coffee from JUCO, signed Council as a Transfer, and signed Jernigan, Tate Johnson, and Wright from HS. That's 6 total.

I agree the end product isn't there. My point is this staff is at least showing the ability to move down the line. Gus in year 8 was not able to do this. TWill was supposed to be this all world recruiter yet we are in a major hole at LBer.
