I think he is trying to put two things together that do not fit
Alabama fans love Coach Saban and like you said, he has earned the right o retire his way
However it does not exempt him from people critiquing the team or the job they think he is doing. That is how we improve.

He's earned a lifetime contract honestly.
Fans critiquing him and the team is not how it improves. Nick Saban does that himself.
