Since it's not the schools directly paying out the money to the players, how would that work? The NIL is more like a NFL player have endorsements, making commercials, etc.. That doesn't affect a team's salary cap.

Hate to say it but that's a surefire way to get the NCAA in a lot of trouble. The only reason that works in the NFL is because the player's union and the teams make a deal that the players agree to. The NFL/NFLPA can make a deal because the money is being exchanged between those two parties only. You would need a player's union and an agreement with the NCAA about the "salary cap" and then bam.... the players are being considered as getting paid for playing for the school instead of just name, image, likeness being paid by outside parties. They are considered employees and the whole tax exempt status for the NCAA is flushed down the toilet.
