Auburn, considering we’re in the Saban era, do you ever wish ya’ll would have kept Gus?

Harsin was a bad hire. He’ll be fired. It’s only a matter of time. Some of your years with Gus were pretty bad but had y’all taken half of this money you spent on transitioning from Gus to Harsin and went and gotten the best defensive coordinator money could buy y’all would be in a much better position in my honest opinion. And considering what factors a prospective head coach has to consider when taking a job in the same state as Saban, a Gus team with a great defensive coordinator isn’t all that bad at least until Saban retires. I honestly don’t think y’all are going to be able to find better until that time.

Nope
Excited to see what Harsin will bring still.
Gus needed to go.

I’m not sure why Auburn cut Gus loose. They were winning their usual 6 games per season weren’t they?

But Gus had the occasional really good year. In the right year, Gus could have won a national championship. Harsin can’t recruit. His ceiling is pretty low until the guy figures out how to recruit and I doubt he does quickly enough to save his job.

Surely “excited” was the wrong word? I could somewhat see you using “optimistic” being believable, but “excited”? He sure better learn how to recruit quickly.

Nope.
Gus had one really good year.
He finished 19th with less than 2 months on the job last year. Currently 13th with a shot to be top-10. That’s where Auburnhas recruited historically

Crazy that people think we wanted Gus to stay. Most everyone wanted him fired since the 2017 season. The only reason he hung around was because of that idiotic contract.
Harsin is going to be a good coach for Auburn. We’ve already had several players announce they’re returning for their senior seasons. The team is going to be better in year 2. He closed extremely well in recruiting too.

No one is saying y’all didn’t want him fired. I’m saying in hindsight, doesn’t it look like y’all should have kept Gus rather than financing an extremely expensive transition from Gus to Harsin. Harsin is very underwhelming.
If you come out of that coaching search with Brian Kelly then okay. But y’all paid all of that to settle with Harsin?

No, not at all.
If by underwhelming you mean he didn’t go undefeated in his first season like Bowden or take us take us to the Nc game in his first year like Gus? Then yes, I guess he’s underwhelming. No go look what this coaches did in their 3rd years.

Whatever you say. After this year and recruiting I don’t think anyone here besides your fellow auburn fans think you’re honestly “excited”. And I think deep down, you’re a little bummed out this is who y’all wound up with and by saying you’re “excited” is you simply hoping for the best at this point.

Gus had another good 5-7 years in him at Auburn. Premature to cut him loose when they did. I enjoyed watching his teams play.

Exactly, now you’re learning.

He might’ve had another 5-7 mediocre years as HC but he peaked in 2013

Glad Gus is gone. Auburn is an injury to their QB from going 10-3. Harsin is instilling much needed discipline. It’s going to take a few years to rebuild.

So you tell me, what is Harsin’s peak?

Since this is Saban's last year, isn't it a moot point?
