Les Miles backed into a National Title with 2 losses during an era in which Alabama was losing to the likes of Louisiana-Monroe.

he also coached in an era where Florida and Auburn were winning and playing for multiple national titles. He played both of those teams ever year. He axe-murdered good programs from other conferences as well. Alabama may have been down, but others were up. That's kind of how college football works. Les also went toe-to-toe with Alabama until 2015. Les won in 2007, lost in OT in 2008, Alabama put it away in the 4th quarter in 2009, won in 2010, won and lost in 2011, lost in the last minute of play in 2012, got beat effectively in 2013, and lost in OT in 2014. Yes, his title in 2007 involved a lot of luck, but his entire tenure did not. Les won a ton of games against very good teams throughout his time at LSU

I just looked up Gerry Faust and saw that ND gave him 5 years. Times sure have changed.
