Brandon Cox had some sort of neuromuscular disease which he played through that caused muscular weakness
I remember learning about this back in the day, but wasn't it kind of wild that Auburn had no other choice but to start a QB with a serious muscular issue?

Very wild. On top of that, the WR units got pretty mid after Prechae and Courtney Taylor left. We ended up with Robert Dunn and Tommy Trott basically.

Myasthenia Gravis. I remember. He still was a QB for us and can be evaluated by his play.
Cox was a lot better than most of the guys on these lists though.
Brandon Cox ranked nationally by QBR:
2005: 27th
2006: 48th
2007: 60th
Nothing overly impressive (and he regressed as the team got worse around him), but there are multiple AU QB's who were so bad that they couldn't even start for a full season - let alone even qualify nationally amongst other QB's. To pretend that Cox is in that category is asinine.

I still remember Cox's first game against Georgia Tech. That dude threw four picks but threw for nearly 350 yards as I was spending the night at my grandparents house. I was excited after the game because I thought we were about to start slinging it.

Yeah he wasn’t even good enough to be considered for the list of bad

Prechae was pretty awful to be a WR1

His performance at Georgia that year alone is why he can’t be considered bad next to some of these guys. All in all, he was really promising as a sophomore. But he had some stinkers as a junior and senior I’ve never recovered from

After his sophomore year, Cox usually did enough to complement the defense that Auburn was putting on the field, but when he had bad games he had really bad games.

Nobody still holds contempt in their hearts for how Cox gifted Georgia our souls in back to back years and it shows. That rivalry hasnt been the same since.
That was Tubs fault for not having a backup qb. His knee was swollen up twice its original size making an already mobility challenged qb a sitting freaking duck behind our OL. He's a got damn warrior and this disrespect shall not stand

Cox also beat thUGA and never lost to uat. The triple pump chump will never know how that feels.

i'm not worried about backup quarterback. He should've been recruited over.

He always was beat up. Brandon Cox took arse whippings.
During one of those seasons, a pic of Cox's leg leaked out on the ITAT premium board. It was a solid black bruise from midway up his thigh to just below the knee. IDK how he played, much less threw on target.

Always have the imagine of Cox getting pounded on... much like SW. They didn't make QBn look fun.

Thorne has to be in contention with his picks
Maybe, but I don’t believe so, … that chapter on Thorne has not yet been completed.
As I’ve referenced before, our OL is in the bottom 25% of the conference. My criticism of Thorne has always been tempered by that fact (Nix made the right decision to transfer).
That said, Thorne has several VERY correctable mistakes that consistently reveal themselves when he’s under pressure … which is to say, frequently.
I attended my first AU football game in 1964 at the age of 5. It was not my first college football game, but I fell in love with the school where I would eventually graduate. It was tough being a student during the Barfield era.
But nothing was harder to endure than the 2012 season. Kiehl Frazier gets my nod as the worst QB . Our defense was really bad that year, but somehow Frazier still managed to take the spotlight off of the stinky D.

That is a fair post.
Unlike AuinNYC
Thorne is literally throwing interceptions because of wrong routes these days. But he cannot win or some bull shite as if Sean White could

Sean White had 4 or 5 SEC road wins and beat LSU at home.
Thorne had plenty of chances to beat the likes of New Mexico State, Cal, Oklahoma at home and yikes.
I will say we should have won the iron bowl last year I guess but all he was doing in that game was his best Robby Ashford impression.

He fed bellcows the whole game against the arkansas's. He was very average and his stats horrid. One year he had a gigantic 1 touchdown.
Shut up dude

Thorne is throwing picks because he is tipping his plays and telegraphing his receivers. IMO, both are tendencies that are correctable with proper coaching. He’s an otherwise talented QB.
That’s a very bad combination of tendencies. I’m reminded of the scene from Bull Durham ….. “go ahead, Meat … serve it up”
Yes, there are clearly interceptions you can attribute to occasional poor route running by a young receiver corps, you are correct about that.
Like the Thorne correctable tendencies, it’s a matter of coaching. Our “young” receiver corps should have their routes down cold by this time of the season … they don’t.
Plenty of areas for coaching and development.

So better than Thorne? Agreed.
