There are AU symbols on both exit signs and they are covered up by square panels. They were visible when I was a student but were covered up years ago. Any idea why? They were cool.

I think it had something to do with copyright of the logo, but I don't remember the exact story.

If memory serves me right… late 90s there was a state congressman who protested them in the legislature. His position was the state shouldn’t be advertising Auburn since state tax dollars fund signage - interstates are subsidized by the federal government, but maintained by the state. Not surprisingly, he was an Alabama graduate/ fan. When it came up, I thought to myself “of all the issues to take up in the legislature, what set of morons thought this was a good idea!”

This is sorta what I expected
Which is ridiculous because the signs already exist. What additional funds were needed?

It was due to Jacksonville State not having the free advertising on the interstate right near campus, both Auburn and Alabama have a major interstate while JSU does not have that luxury.
