So I got to thinking...

What if there was a requirement or permission needed to post on the team boards?

Basically, posters could could post freely on the SEC Rant and all the other boards as they do now but to have posting privileges on the team specific boards would require permission from some designated board overlord (mod) type (kinda like we're doing now).

I am not a fan of board exclusivity but I've been on a sports forum site that has it's own secret board for the elder more experienced/insightful posters to kinda hide out from the riff-raff in the general community.

The reason for this is to cut down on trolling, flaming, and preserve the good conversations without derailment.

Once access is granted to the team boards, it could only be revoked by an Admin (Chicken, Ice, etc)

As far a lurking privileges to the general public of the team boards, it's up to Chicken (like everything else).

If anyone could lurk the team boards but not post, I could see some butt-hurt/jealousy issues (it's a trade off)

I still don't know if this is a good idea but it would certainly remedy many of the undesired trolling/flame issues with the fan bases.

just a thought.

Then you get into an issue of what is the standard for granting access onto the boards..

I thought about this idea too last night, but just think about the bitchfest it would cause by having a permanent limited access area. This would definitely help keep our team boards clean, but it would probably turn the SECRant into a cesspool. Plus it takes away from

Yeah, I know, that's why I think it should be solely at the discretion of the overlord mod(s)/admins.

It should NOT be based on anything like post counts, join date, or some rep system.

In essence, the only reason we are here posting now is because an admin granted us access.

And the only reason we are allowed to post on tigerdroppings/SEC Rant is because we aren't banned.

The only problem is the mod/overlord/admins job would kinda suck...unless no one knew who he/she was...which is nearly impossible.

Again, these are all great ideas in theory, but I think you're just gonna have to let em be free, and then have each board's admins keep an eye and whack/anchor threads that are not needed/off topic from the team discussion, and make it very clear that if you do not adhere to the rules of the team board, then you will not be able to post on ANY board.

Yeah kinda seems like we've overcomplicating an issue that can be solved fairly simply.. Team Admins on each board with limited power that overlook and make sure nothing too out of line is posted.

I am having difficulty seeing a dramatic difference from what it is now.

Yeah, it's a tradeoff (a little exclusivity for a better community environment)

But it's not like anything would be taken away from what members already have... They just wouldn't be in the new area...yet.

I also think granting permission to one team board should allow access to all team boards with the understanding flaming/trolling would be less tolerated in these forums, where the SEC Rant could remain a sort of free zone with less moderation (like it is now).

With the ability to suggest bans to the admin...unless after a while they get bannage powers as well

ETA: And team OT-Lounges will be sweetness as well. And a no-flame zone.

That's not what I want...However, it would be nice to have forums within the SEC Rant a little more moderated and civil...The team pages present this opportunity in my opinion.

The Tiger Rant is actually one of the more heavily moderated boards on tigerdroppings.

Troll threads from opposing schools don't last long and the flaming is contained for the most part.

Ironically, this was probably a driving force for the creation of the SEC Rant.

Now that the SEC Rant has become it's own animal with a healthy mixture fan bases...The desire for each school's own "Tiger Rant" appears to be emerging.

Sucks for Chicken but these are good problems to have.

Mostly, it was that so many fans from other teams were posting on the Tiger Rant that it was cluttering it up, with not as much LSU news, thusly the Rant was created (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

And the SEC Rant will still be what it is. It would kinda be the OT for SECRant.com, yet still mostly be about sports.

For the record, I am abandoning my exclusive permission to team board idea and retreating to the Tiger Rant model of how to moderate the team boards.

I didn't like the idea in the first place but I at least wanted to flesh it out.

Mission accomplished.

I think it should be allowed for opposing fanbases to post on, let's say, Auburn's board. But if any posters step out of line, they can be banned from Auburn's board by Auburn's ADMIN (not from every board, just Auburn's). I'd love for people like bamasgot13 to still be able to post with us. taylormade is also a good guy.

I would just love to get away from the SECr when all of the shite hits the fan.

This is along my line of thinking but you would still be making the team boards de facto exclusive.

Well to be fair, you'll have to add more moderation. Chicken and team having to control 12 more boards would be nearly impossible.

I don't see how adding an Admin or two for each board would hurt if you gave them limited power solely for that board and nowhere else.

ETA: And then adding a private SECr Admin board where all the admins of those boards report to Chicken on potential issues and posters on their board and such.
