Well fellas, it seems we really shite the bed during this search.

Did we really expect anything different?
Posted on 12/3/12 at 10:31 pm to We_Need_Cam
I didn't, but then again I'm a negative Nancy.

Me too. It's not like we don't have our reasons though.

Let's try thinking logically before jumping off the bridge.

All coordinators before taking over big-time programs. I'd say they've done pretty well.
If there's one coordinator in the country that has the qualifications to be a head coach, he's sitting in Tuscaloosa.

Too late, I'm in mid-flight/fall.

I'll toss down a parachute. Try and slow down your gravity a bit - it's kinda light, so it'll take a bit to get to you.

And I'm a ton more pissed at the idea of Auburn NOT hiring Petrino vs Auburn hiring Smart.

Agreed. I think Smart could be good. I just know Petrino is good

I can understand the hesitance from an administrative standpoint not to hire him. He lied to his boss repeatedly, and violated several federal laws by hiring his mistress into a position she was potentially less-qualified for than other potential candidates.
The "holier-than-thou" crowd and the "he doesn't play defense" crowd are what bother me.

A lot of the players are a little iffy on Petrino as well.
From what I'm gathering the sentiments around the locker room lean towards current players wanting Malzahn, Fisher, or Smart.
Oh, and if anyone cares, Emory thinks Lemonier is almost a lock to come back next year.

Not sure how I feel about Smart being hired. Really hard to tell if he is a championship level head coach, especially with UGA and Bama recruiting for the same scheme he will be.

I bet our lazy players want Malzahn. Keep that easy atmosphere going.

One thing I do know? Carl Lawson would be an absolute beast coming off the edge as a jack LB in the 3-4.
I don't want Smart over Petrino, but I'm just sayin'...

I still buy in to the thinking that this is fluid and constantly changing. After putting down the pitchfork, I'm still pretty irritated, but not so much about Smart. Obviously the dude has potential. You can see that he loves the game and obviously Saban would like to keep him around.
I'm not sure why I'm angry

He's 36 years old. If he ends up being a good hire, he could be here a while. I like that.
I want a guy that'll commit to Auburn, have the administration commit to him, and be able to stay until he retires. Something that we haven't had happen since Shug.

It doesn't surprise me that our soft players would be iffy on Petrino.

Good for Patterson. Our sorry excuse for an AD opted for Chizik over Patterson 4 years ago. The guy should be heading into his fifth year here.
He will have TCU competing for the Big 12 title in 2 years. Mark my words.
Screw you, Jacobs!

It is, Petrino still has yet to be interviewed. And I feel for sure he will be.
