but as you said it would help greatly with out half court sets

Our halfcourt sets have generally been successful thus far. We have had good looks and typically it is just bad shooting not bad offense when we struggle.

To properly utilize Wiley would be a feed into the post or pick and roll. Unfortunately, that would come at the expense of our success from flex screens we've seen this year. Hard to run a flex offense without flex screens

he won't get the blocks that Anfernee gets but he probably affects shots more.

He would affect post player's shots more due to positioning, but in terms of backside rim protection on drives it will be a clear downgrade

If anything, Wiley's imposing presence will make him a foul machine on driving guards

However, as good as I think Wiley is, Bruce would have to be really smart in how he incorporated him. He could make us much better in our half court sets offensively, but could really clog up a lot of the other stuff we do that has worked well so far.

we could accomplish the same thing feeding the post and kicking it for spot up 3s.

We definitely could, but that is a completely different offense than what we/Bruce currently/historically run. The off ball movement patterns would change and spacial awareness differences

It also requires Wiley to jump from garbage passer last year to elite passer to be effective. Ya, he should be vastly improved, but not to the level to make post entry and kick a thing

We would have to be able to play 2 different styles of offense.

A lot of college teams struggle to play 1 type of offense. It is asking a lot to incorporate a 2nd type of offense

Teams are late recognizing the zone and getting into their zone sets

We frequently fall back into it after the press too. They were so focused on beating the press that they aren't ready to recognize the 1-1-3 right away

Also, attacking the 1-1-3 isn't hte same as a traditional zone set anyways. A lot of teams pass to the high post and kick from there, but the 1-1-3 defends that area

start the possession in this defense and switch to straight man rather seamlessly in the middle of a possession to further confuse the offense

I'm still not comfortable with us doing ths unless the opponent is resetting the offense after a rebound or early in the shot clock

but yes, it is a very valuable tool to use
