Tre has shown me he could be a bigger “stats” guy with increased usage. KD has had some big games in his college career but we know what KD is..

Aden has hit the freshman wall and is borderline a mess right now. Denver I really like and wish would be more aggressive.

Our top 4 guards average 7.7 PPG on the season. If that's not bad, then you tell me what bad is.

Considering they split time, that averages out to ~16PPG from both the 1 & 2 guard spot.
Add that to the fact that we try to work the ball inside, and I say it's not bad.

shooting 32.9% on season. 32.8% at home/33% away.

I am amazed at that stat honestly. It seems like we shoot the 3 ball much better at home and can't hit the broad side of a barn on the road.

I think Aden's biggest problem right now is the space between his ears.
He seems to be pressing and trying too hard to break out of his slump, like the batter swinging at bad pitches just trying to get that one hit that he knows will get him going again.
It has spilled over into his passing and going into the lane out of control also. He needs to be on the bench in pressure situations right now, and worked back into more PT when he settles down IMHO.

Another thing: the tournament does a pretty good job taking away the Broomes. The tournament is where guards need to eat.

Yep, teams with great guard play are typically the teams that make it deep into the tournament. Which is why we've gotten bounced early the last couple seasons.

People trying to say people critical of our guard play didn't follow basketball before Bruce are just being silly. It's perfectly possible to appreciate everything Bruce has done for us and still realize our guard play has been mostly crap since SEC play started.

I grew up watching the Barkley, Person, and Morris teams, and was a Cliff Dweller during my time at Auburn, but I'm still extremely disappointed in our guard play this year overall.

Aden and Denver were supposed to be primary scoring options this year, but have been mostly non-existent in SEC play. Luckily CBM has been the real deal, Tre has improved big time, and KD has done a much better job of restraining himself this season.

How much Aden and Denver can improve and get comfortable in the offense the rest of the way will probably determine if we are a second weekend tournament team or not.

My issue is that you all are saying our guard play is crap. It is not. These are some of the best guards auburn basketball has had or will ever have. Seriously. They aren’t Jared or Bryce and I don’t think any of them are even good as Samir (although I think Tre and Aden both have a chance to get there) but they are good players playing their roles efficiently. I said the same about All-SEC Wendell Green Jr and virtually the whole board disagreed with me on him too lol.

I do agree in that I’m skeptical any of these guys are “carry the team” good.

But there have been many final 4 teams without “carry the team” type guards

I believe it. At home we get up big and end up taking a bunch of dumb 3s.

I defended Wendy too, but his play was above average at best and he was very anti-clutch. He was an asset but that is about it. We missed on the Creighton dude, white dude that left us, Westry. We have been hurting at guard.

Aden currently has a PER of 11 and a Win shares/40 of like .110. Denver and KD have been average with like 14ish PER and .150ish WS/40. Problem is outside of KD their numbers have been way way worse in SEC play. Tre has been very good though.

They aren't even close to the same level as Jared Harper, Bryce Brown, Marquis Daniels, Wesley Person, or Eddie Johnson though.

Guys like KT Harrell, Samir, Ronnie Battle, or Chris Denson would be above them by quite a bit too.

If we had a KT or Battle at the 2 bombing threes I'd be really excited about our tournament outlook. I was hoping Denver would be that guy along with Aden, but so far not so much.

Our lack of consistent three point shooting from the guard spots has killed us at the end of the last two seasons, and so far it's been a repeat this season. Luckily we are deeper this year and CBM and Jaylin have been dogs, so we've overcome it. But we are going to need those spots to get hot to make it anywhere in the tournament.

Kayden Allen is the No. 7 player in the 2026 On3 150. The 6-foot-5 guard transferred to play this season at MaxPreps No. 1 ranked Montverde (FL) Montverde Academy this season.

“I’m a pure scorer who can score at all three levels,” Allen told On3. “If you need a bucket, I can go get it.

AUBURN: “Coach Bruce Pearl was around a lot. He was really cool, I loved the coach. They made me feel like I was at home. Being at the football game there, being around the program, watching practice. I like the system and I just really loved the campus.”

I liked KT’s game quite a bit and know him somewhat well. Dude was a traffic cone on defense though. I’d love to have him on this squad regardless.

And yeah, all those guys you named are better than our current guards no doubt. But those guys were all really good or great. I missed the Battle years but I’ve heard stories.

If we had any of the guys you named we would probably be the sure-fire runaway favorite.

I said this yesterday and it is true:

“It’s “do or die” here, all the time! There is no other way. Today’s game thread will be off the charts.”

Jt33 has already given up on the SEC regular season title and March. No sense in combatting with him, IMHO.

Yeah I think that’s why I get so annoyed. I was on this board and others earlier in Jared and Bryce’s careers and people were completely out on them at times too.

The stories are still being written

Literally this past Wednesday Tre played against some really good guards and set the tone with 3 early buckets that completely wrecked Bama’s defensive game plan. Then he started driving and dishing and suddenly Broome and Jaylin were dominating

His improvement from year one to year two has been massive. Hopefully Aden can make the same kind of jump in year two, with a decent return to early season form by the end of this one.
