Feel like the Auburn basketball thread has been a little too quiet since the McLemore injury. Glad to hear the surgery went well and he should be back at it by the start of next season.

Just wanted to remind everyone that we are still a top 12 team and most projections still have us at a 2 seed. I think we are going to still finish the year of strong, and the team has time to adjust to life without McLemore prior to the tournament.

Losing AM shouldn't affect us too much offensively, as Okeke and Dunbar are both more dynamic offensive weapons. I think we all see the potential Okeke has, maybe he'll seize this opportunity and take his game up level down the stretch. Obviously there is no way to lose a starter from your team and it be a good thing, but this team has always been an undersized team, that beat you by forcing turnovers, playing fast, sharing the ball and knocking down shots. That's not going to change.

No matter what I'm not going to rule this team out after losing AM. This team has too much heart and has proved doubters wrong all year long. If there is one team that could bounce back from this, it's this Auburn team.

We have like 8 players now. Hopes for a deep NCAA tournament run have shifted to just hoping that we can hold the SEC lead because that is a big deal by itself.

Time will tell. Not with Harper standing around with the ball for 2/3 of the shot clock like he's been doing lately before the injury. A team that stretches the floor has to have rhythm. I agree on Okeke. Can't wait to see how he transitions. Needs to be way more physical, but we were already giving up enough easy shots to stay out of foul trouble.

This is where I am most concerned for sure. You can rotate and play with 8 players, but you just have no room for error. We really can't afford to get in foul trouble.

You can win big in college basketball with 8 man rotations. Championships have been won by even smaller rotations. Not sure it's gonna work with this team though, but like he is saying I wouldn't rule this team out.

It will take Horace learning to play without fouling, which, he's straight up gonna have to adjust his game for that to work.. and it will take Okeke stepping up to the plate on both ends.. We all know he is capable.

I notice that during games too, where Harper stands there and pom-poms the ball all the way down to about 10 seconds, then we scramble to get a shot much less a good shot.

I worry about our perimeter D again, as no way S Carolina should have scored 85 pts, when they are barely avging 68 points a game. Heck, they had about 50 at half time the other night.

I also notice teams are starting to continue to shoot anywhere from 45-50% shooting. that's ridiculous and makes it hard to keep up with.

Without AM, the inside is going to get easier, as Spencer will just get in foul trouble faster the more he plays. Its going to have to come from Murray and Okeke to pick it up...

Hope we have the lungs of greyhounds if we expect to continue playing pressure D and relentless O with 8 players then.

That won't be necessary, at least as long as we don't dig ourselves 26 point holes. This team played harder than I've seen it play all season in the second half of the USCjr game.. but it wouldn't have needed to with a decent first half.

I don’t know dude. I remember the Inside tbe SEC: Auburn edition show and Bruce telling our players before a game to not worry if we start off slow on offense because then their defense is fresh. It seems to me our margin of error has been small all along and our relentlessness was what made up for it. I just don’t think we can out work other teams to our advantage anymore.

It will be harder, for sure. I think we need to dial it back juuussstt a smidge on offense, conserve energy and take smarter shots down there. Which sucks cause the running and gunning at the first sliver of light has been awesome and definitely has worn down opponents.

Serious question. Do we have room to add a walk-on?

Bruce needs to talk to Gus and grab a backup FB big man to take some fouls and play D / rebound. Other teams have done this in the past...Conner Barwin comes to mind.

It’s a pretty big loss IMO. Losing anyone would be, especially a starter at our thinnest spot. Our ability to run and keep guys fresh was our biggest advantage. Now we are going to have to be more conscientious of our energy levels.

Exactly. I just hope we can win the SEC regular season championship. That alone would mean a lot for our program. The possible run after is just icing on the cake.

AJC, and here's a surprise, takes another shot at Auburn basketball and Bruce Pearl.

(This time is that douche Mark Bradley, not the other douche.)

https://www.myajc.com/blog/mark-bradley/cleaning-college-hoops-won-easy-but-can-done/2xgVujxFVKtp72r78J1fkJ/

quote:

The NCAA must shred its rulebook – and make the next edition tougher. Bruce Pearl was fired by Tennessee for lying to NCAA investigators. He was given a three-year show-cause penalty. He was hired by a school in Tennessee’s conference before those three years had lapsed. Auburn assistant Chuck Person was indicted by the Feds and is facing trial; he has been fired by the school. The two recruits to whom Person is alleged to have funneled money remain ineligible. Yet Pearl coaches on, his Tigers sitting atop the SEC.

The state of Georgia and their UGA homer media are sooooooooooo triggered by Auburn it's ridiculous.

So just read article on AL.com and looks like we are going non contact practices for the rest of the way. Also Bruce says Brown suffered a foot injury vs UK. This is the most AU thing ever. Finally worth a damn and the injury bug bites.

AL.com

I blame Carl Lawson..
