I kinda agree with this - probably our best chance at maintaining Bruce's success is with someone who's studying under him every day for the last 15 years.
I'm just leery because in these situations, the son usually sucks... (Murray Bartow, Joey Meyer, Pat Knight, John Thompson III, etc...)

If it wasn’t his son but another asst how would you feel? Just curious.
I agree with you as most need to learn how to manage everything on their own and go through the growing pains of making the decisions- good and bad. This seems to be the safer route

I think there is a chance it could actually work out.
But another reason to be hesitant is because I would hate for it to end poorly and suddenly the Pearl’s don’t want to be in Auburn anymore. I want Bruce being an AU ambassador until the day he dies like Pat Dye.

I would feel the exact same if a longtime assistant with no HC experience took over after the extended run of success we've had under Pearl.

Like Calipari's right hand man?

I’m very nervous of a never been a head coach before taking a program like Auburn. As much good will we have built the past 10 years can be flushed in 2-3 short years. How many of the current assistants would stay under Steven? Probably only a couple.
Best thing would be for Steven to take almost any job just to gain experience. Hell I would feel better if he went and learned under another head coach for a couple years.

100%
Some scuttlebutt on Stephen leaving is the transfer portal pilfering mid majors and Pearl not being able to show satisfactory results before he is hired at Auburn.
But learning from a different staff can be a plus absolutely. Imagine a coach whispering to Pearl: "and this is the beauty of timeouts" What a throbber!

Agree with all of this. There’s a huge learning curve as a head coach, and the SEC has never been better. We’d be lapped as a program with Steven as the head coach imo. Get a proven commodity, and continue the success.
