If the epic disaster that was the AU football program from January 2011 through December 2012 didn't convince those in power that we needed massive change in the Athletic Dept, then I doubt anything ever will.
There's some truth to that I believe.
I was reading that article on the guy that was behind the scenes for Saban and then went over to Clemson. It was interesting to see his comments on how in tune Bama is from Saban, to the AD, and up to the president, aqnd of course the boosters. The processes are in and they are letting Saban run the program. I hate it, but somehow that midget has unlocked the combination to being ultra successful.
Look at Butch at TN, he may not be on Saban's level when it comes to X's and O's, but look at his recruiting and facilities galore. He's got the buy in from the AD, President, and boosters. His downfall may be he just doesn't have the on field smarts.
We definitely have some problems somewhere, and need to be rectified sometime.

Gus knows he has to win next year to save his job. If he is taking a more hands on approach to achieve then I applaud it .
Also what a lot of people said about Chizik after 2011. There's a fine line when it comes to involvement for head coaches. I'm not saying he should just care about offense, but it's not a good sign when our assistants have basically been running for the hills to get out over the last few weeks. Meddling cost both Tuberville and Chizik their jobs.

"Running for the hills" is a huge stretch when only 3 assistants left, 2 followed Muschamp w/ raises + promotions and 1 went to coach where his son is coaching.
-TRob got a huge SEC DCoordinator job and followed Muschamp like he always has
-Lance Thompson came to AU with Muschamp, he followed him to USCe
-Grimes is coaching at same school his son is a GA at and likely retiring very soon

Bobby Bentley too. And it didn't take very long for him to leave.
quote:
When coach Muschamp said he's got the job, he said 'I want you to be on staff.' I didn't ask any other questions, I just said when do you want me to start coach?" Bentley said. "I didn't know anything. I didn't know my position, I didn't know my role. I just said, 'Coach, I'm with you. ... It didn't take a lot of time for me to think about it.

Was in an off field position here and is from SC.

Rhett Lashlee is interviewing for an OC job elsewhere, Tim Horton has been trying to get multiple jobs since December, and there were reports that Craig was interested in some OC jobs.

I'm pretty sure somebody said here that we were going to give him an on the field position.

I could say we were going to bring in Chip Kelly as OC, doesn't make it true.

Obviously not. Doesn't mean it's false either.

WTF, when did you hear this? I am going to post on SECRant now.

Been trying to get a HC job which would obviously be a bump up

Where? Who is reporting this? I have not seen this at all
It should not be a surprise that a staff of defensive coaches hired by a DC would then go with that DC when he takes a HC spot. Bentley is a South Carolina man through and through so he gets a chance to take an on field role for his homestate school. Grimes gets to go coach with his son. Other guys are like every offseason looking for ways to move up the coaching ranks.
Not saying that all things are sunshine but there are just as many legitimate reasons to explain moves as there are nefarious ones. Most of all the coaches that left obviously moved up in their career besides Lance Thompson and Grimes. And at the end of the day when you got 6-6 staff changes are going to happen

Bash Ron Sanders all you guys want but do any of the reports surprise anybody. Gus does not trust anyone besides Herb Hand.
If not it looks like Gus's inability to trust those he hires will sink his own ship.
I can see where Muschamp and Malzahn may have had a few conflicts, but remember Muschamp has a HC's mentality and it is hard to go back to being UNDER a boss again.
But i expect GM to get involved in every aspect of the team, but as long as he lets his coaches 'Coach' then he has the responsibility to tell HIS coaches what he needs from them to be successful.
And tell me why he would not trust DC or any other coaches HE Hired?

Obviously not. We are just going to have to realized that little to no info is being leaked out of the program right now. Because of this writers are having to guess and hypothesize what they think is happening to going to happen and pass it off as "insider info".

Every coach is trying to move up and get that next promotion.
Looking for HC or OC promotion is not running for the hills
There are no reports of this. Even if true, Craig isn't really our "OC" so any realy Offensive Coordinator job is a promotion.
He is from South Carolina and is going from analyst to on field position coach with huge raise.

You are seriously one of the worst posters on the entire SEC Rant. You throw out these absolutely ludicrous remarks and then use the most illogical and ridiculous thought process to support them.

Bentley probably would take an on the field at USCe over AU considering his connections to the state and his relationship with Muschamp

I'll admit I was wrong about Craig, but Horton was chasing after the head coaching job at North Texas, which is one of the worst head coaching jobs in the country, and then tried to be an OC at a Sun Belt school if I'm not mistaken. Rhett went to the coaches convention and interviewed for an OC job, Muschamp reportedly would have taken the DC jobs at Georgia and Alabama if he had not been hired at South Carolina, we lost all our defensive coaches except for the one who has the most connections to the AD, and we lost Grimes to Cincinnati even though Tuberville is on the hot seat. If that's not running for the hills, I'm not really sure what is. But being immature and attempting to call me out is not adding anything to the conversation. So try again.
