Yes but can't imagine the conversation between him and Cowart.

Haha. Probably.
Seriously though, Dye is a smart guy with a lot of wisdom. I'm always happy to hear he is still around, talking to players, etc.
Ftr, Dye was an academic all American at UGA. He went both ways and was one of their best players on both sides of the ball starting all three years. Freshmen played on a freshmen team back then, not with the varsity. Dye and Frank Tarkenten wrecked shop Pretty good at UGA when the played together.
One of only 38 men in Georgia's "circle of honor" which includes athletes in all sports and coaches. It is a pretty exclusive list.

Still doesn't discredit what he accomplished.

He was also offered $10k to sign in 1956 and turned it down. That was a lot of money at that time especially considering he grew up dirt poor. Dye was very highly recruited out of high school. He and France Tarkenten were the two big prized for UGA in recruiting that year.
Lot of good stories about him in his book. One about a game at UGA where he played 55 minutes of a game where he stripped a runner of the ball and ran it 40 yards the other way for a td. And intercepted a pass. And recovered another fumble. All in the same game.
Dye wasn't just a good player, he was a great one. Then he went and coached D at bama for a decade in the 60s winning natties, then he went and turned east Carolina into a winner, then Wyoming, then finally us where he turned what was basically a steaming pile of dog shite into a powerhouse that is what is is now because of him.
Not really funning around when I call Dye the GOAT. Not sure anyone has ever played such a big role in winning SEC championships as a coach and player at 3 different schools or if anyone has ever done it period.
Now, end hijack, lol.

One last thing, then done (promise).
Just counted it up and Dye won 10 SEC championships as a coach and player.

Ok who offered him $10,000 to sign? Inquiring minds want to know.

He didn't say in his book. Most likely UGA or Tenn. They recruited him the hardest and are the ones he talks about when describing his recruiting.
As far as AU goes, he says Shug told him we wanted him but understood his ties with UGA, that that was where he was probably going, but if he didn't like UGA, AU would love to have him.

Does anyone know what Stephen Roberts did? He seems to be on the outs with the coaches.
I know he got beat a few times in the spring game but he also made a play or two.
