How about we hire the best Madden NFL player out there. Pay him 500k. He can’t be worse.

Let’s just go get the San Jose St coach. Anybody that can go undefeated at San Jose St is better than any of these scrap heap names being thrown around now.

And there may be enough damage done now that we end up stuck with Steele. This search may just break my Auburn fandom.

THIS!!! Unless there's something big behind the scenes we're friked!!!

Who's to say he wouldn't turn it down?

Hell, apparently we can't entice the coaches away from the UL Ragin' Cajuns or the UAB Blazer away from those posh gigs.

Rane, Harbert, and Urban Meyer are sitting in JHS live scrolling Twitter on our jumbotron laughing and drinking champagne.

They trolled us. We're getting Urban on Christmas morning!

@PeteThamel
Sources: Cross Clemson DC Brent Venables off the list at Auburn. He's told Clemson officials that he's staying.

Well that didnt take long

Didn’t PAM just report he was a candidate this morning? Seems Napier and Clark rejected us within a couple hours too.

I find it extraordinarily hard to believe that a career minded coach like Napier (who's resume is the standard ladder climbing resume of all aspiring HCs) would turn down a big 6 SEC job over ULL. The pay for the position would easily be in the 4 million range. He's currently the highest paid SunBelt coach at $875,000/year. Boosters or not, that's a 4x increase.

He's probably being patient and wanting to pick the right opportunity to move to a bigger school and get the control he wants. He's betting on himself to move somewhere and stick. It looks like this gig in the current environment will be a 4-5 year gig at tops then where does he go? He's probably looking at 4-5 years here compared to maybe 10+ in the right environment.

it seems like as soon as a coach is reported as "in the hunt" - within the hour it is then reported that they "turned it down"...amazing timing each time

Glaring omission on my part. Thanks, Jville.

I'd laugh like hell if I wasn't an Auburn fan. This is an embarrassment.

Basically, as soon as someone from AU undercover names someone as the lead candidate, you can expect them to say no in a matter of hours.

Yep

Glad I’m not the only one who is noticing this unfortunate trend.

The SEC and Sankey do not want him in the conference. If he wouldn't let Saban put him into the coach rehab he is running in Tuscaloosa, there's no way Sankey would approve him to run the show in Auburn.
