A Florida fan on the OT posted a link to an archive from one of their message boards in 1996. Here's the Auburn ones: LINK

I've read other old sports message board posts from the 90s before, and even some from the 80s and it's always interesting to see how little the fans have changed. For example, I found this post in particular to still be relevant today, just change a few key words around and you see this exact same thing posted on this board all the time

quote:

Would you want to go to Auburn right now? We have one of the top programs in the SEC and yet some fans constantly deride our coach.... Terry Bowden has a better winning percentage than any coach in Auburn history but even that's no longer good enough. He leads Auburn to an undefeated season for the first time in 36 years but now some fans will accept nothing less. Do you think the high school recruits can't pick up on this????

Here's another one about Rodney Garner I found really interesting. Any of you old timers remember this situation? I had never heard about it before

quote:

Warrr, Fulmer may not have known of the RG contacts until these events. There is no question that Garner is not doing himself any favors if his motivation is undermining the AU program (translated revenge). Not only will he have problems with UT (overall good program and ethical), but he'll establish a bad reputation, and most Div 1 programs have enough problems with alums, much less a problems with the football staff itself. In the end the guy who suffers will be RG.

It was my understanding that when RG left Auburn for Tennessee back in January and tried to take Takeo Spikes and Fred Beasley with him back then, Phil Fulmer officially told him that he was not to have any more contacts with Auburn players, period. You're darn tootin' that he can get Tennessee in a heap of trouble over this, and that he'll hang himself with any other Div. 1-A program.

Plus, he's already made a mess in his own bed. RG only has one home, and that's Auburn. Once you screw up your own kind, they never take you back, and you can never go home. Just ask Eric Ramsey. I also understand that big cousin Charles Barkley called him back in January and told him to mind his own business, and that Auburn players were no longer his concern.

I know it's early and kids can change their minds, but the latest I'm hearing on recruiting is pretty pathetic. All the talent seems to be leaning towards Alabama in the state, and outside the state, you hear nothing of any blue-chippers who want to go to Auburn.
I thought we'd at least see somebody that wanted to go to Auburn. Of the kids I've seen leaning towards Auburn, NONE are defensive linemen! This aggravates me.

Apparently, we are following the lead of Tennessee, Florida and Alabama and
branching out nationally with our recruiting efforts. We signed two players
from Virginia last year and recently signed a 7-foot center from Maine for
our basketball team.
