Wow.

Burrell has spent the previous 23 years as head coach at his alma mater, the University of Houston, where he led the program to 41 conference championships and coached over 150 All-Americans.

I like it. Hope he commits some more scholarships to distance than Spry did.

I know nothing about T&F so I’m going to tell myself this is a great hire until proven otherwise by some random thread on here a week after they get fired.

I think it's a really big hire.

We pulled an Olympian and All-American coach from a school he's been at since 1985 I think. He's also been working with Carl Lewis.

Hell, I remember watching him in the Olympics.

Great hire. Houston has had a great T&F program under him.

Great hire. And let it be known I will adamantly argue I never liked it if things don’t go well

Former world record holder for the 100m dash, that's more impressive than Olympic Gold for the 4x100, imo

He definitely has lost that Olympic shape. I thought he was a football line coach.

But his credentials are the guide you want when hiring a head coach.

One concern. I read another article where he lost a son to suicide in 2021. And evidently he struggled to deal with it in his own words in an article he opened up about it. He felt he had 2 options. One, to work through it as he continued to live and coach in Houston or another was to open another door and start over somewhere else. Evidently he is hoping Auburn is what will help him during this time of loss he struggled with.

I am a Steeler fan and I am following a player named Stephon Truitt who lost his brother 2 years ago, took a leave of absence last year and finally decided he just couldn’t play football anymore. He is struggling to get over his losing him. So it is a heart and mental hurdle so tough to overcome.

Here is the link about Coach Burrell. I wish God,s guidance and Auburn IS the village to help him. After

Auburn recruited him several years ago before he picked Notre Dame. Had no idea he had quit football. That’s tragic.

Really? I missed that.

Truitt had his moments go dominance but he’s had some injuries since joining the Steelers and sit took him a while to learn their 3- 4. We’ve had a hard time replacing him.

Man, he has so uncommonly honest in that release, and UH throwing him unwavering support is a pretty big testament of what Burrell is all about and how much he is respected. How can you not root for a guy like this? I hope he does well at AU and can have some peace in his life.
