Jay Jones loses Lee County sheriff election

Not sports related but if you were in Auburn anytime after 1998 you've probably seen Jay Jones name as Lee County sheriff.
He lost his reelection race last night to a former deputy.
Some talk on Xwitter that Jones was refusing to work with the Trump administration on apprehending illegals in the county.

That's my understanding.
I've never really understood having sheriff as an elected position. Here in the Atlanta area a former Braves pitcher was sheriff for nearly 20 years based strictly on his name.
