Those non-contact injuries are on the coaching and conditioning staff.

I see. Tell me more.

I have an issue only in how Gus goes about it. A lot of coaches don't give injury reports unless it is season ending. We don't expect to have an update and so we are fine with that

The suspensions for example, the fact that he said all players will be available etc is stupid. Either don't comment on the subject or announce it. No reason to play these stupid games for Georgia Southern

2 pulled hamstrings in different seasons is evidence of the staff failing to properly condition players? Is that in your professional medical opinion or just as wildly reactionary as it seems?

No reason anyone under the age of 30 should be pulling a hammy if coaches are making them stretch and making them stay on stationary bicycles on the sidelines to stay warm.

Well you better tell Olympic Sprinters that they have a bad S&C program. They can't even run in straight lines without pulling a hammy

There's no difference in him lying about it and him saying nothing.

You know he doesn't give updates so don't trust him saying "everybody is good to go"

Agreed, but I think you are missing my point

People are more pissed about him playing these stupid games than not having the info.

They are fine without the info, they aren't fine with being purposefully mislead for no fricking reason

That's not what they say.

I don't know why you'd care if he plays games either. You either win or don't. What he says or doesn't say to the media/fans doesn't really matter at all. People just choose to nit pick these things when we're not winning.

If the known policy was no injury reports, people wouldn't be this upset about it.

Playing these games doesn't help us win and is more characteristic of a high schooler than a HC earning millions. I'd prefer if the AU coach acted like a professional, not like he is winning enough games to have an excuse not to

You knowing whether a player is hurt or not before the game effects the game 0%. So why the frick should we care?

I love this board. Y'all made me agree with Weagle on a Friday

He might just enjoy the support it provides? Maybe it's a good luck charm? Perhaps he keeps his stash in there? It might be one of those artificial deals that is really a bong when you take it off?

So the same can be said about Jay Jacob's comments on the softball situation?

Silly comment

Just like I said, if he wins no one cares. So let's end the charade.

I think this is the real point of contention. Since Weagle, myself, and others think people would be just as pissed with no report as the possibly (probably) facetious reports, we don't see an issue with Gus's current course of action. IF not discussing them at all would receive no appreciable backlash, I would agree that HCGM should just not talk about them. Personally, I've seen how testy the Auburn fanbase and media can be about secrecy, so I have a very hard time believing that Gus saying "I won't talk about injuries" would not cause just as much of a stir as his current method. A difference in hypothetical outcomes is a big gulf to cross, unfortunately.

Let's take an irrelevant situation and compare it! Great idea!

Any comment can be taken out of context and made to look silly. Comparing covering up one of your coaches taking advantage of one of his players to Gus lying about whether a guy is hurt or not to the fans is beyond stupid.

You need a lesson on context

I mean has he seen the amount of people that bitch about coach speak? Having a policy of not talking about it would be no different

People aren't pissed about secrets but about being deceived and lied to.

A secret is hooking your best friends girl before they got together
A deception/lie is denying it ever happened when confronted

People won't be happy if things are closed off. They will accept it as how it works

Being told something then having the entire thing be a sham though isn't easy for people to accept

I disagree. When things like QB competitions and such are kept under ramps, things are freaking nuts around here. Now, I'm not crazy or drunk ENOUGH to know that this place doesn't represent all Auburn fans because we're a die-hard and football-crazed breed, but other less involved outlets get just as wacky when big secrets are kept. My thought process is to just accept that you won't really know about injuries until game time. A big injury never stopped me from turning in or showing up to cheer my team on, and I like to be as optimistic as reasonably possible so maybe that has something to do with it. I just remember Franklin at Vandy literally telling the media that a guy could be in a full body cast and that all he would say is that he's drinking lots of milk and rehabbing hard to see if he could be ready for Saturday.

There are plenty of things to stress about during the week and on gameday. Whether or not my coach was totally forthcoming about injuries is not one I want to add to the plate. Just have an adult beverage of choice (if you're so inclined) and yell "War Eagle" for whoever the hell dresses for a game.
