We used Lutz and Uzomah when we had them. I thought Cannella was going to be a pass catching option, but he couldn't catch the ball last year.

Hmm. Glad you fellas are pleased with Auburn's use of the TE. I'd personally like to see us utilize the position more.

There's a pretty damn big difference between Rob Gronkowski and Salvatore Canella... Just saying, bro.

If we had a talent remotely close to Gronko at TE I'm positive he would be used. They probably wouldn't put up all-star numbers, but much like Lutz I'm sure they would be used very efficiently and effectively.
Like if Chizik hadn't botched the OJ Howard recruitment that should have been a slam dunk, he grew up an AU fan, and Auburn signed a 5* TE that elite, the fanbase would have demanded Gus use him. Even Ricky Parks and Landon Rice, if they hadn't been retards I think they would have been utilized here.

The only talented TE we've had that was under used was Uzomah, which was very frustrating because he could have been a great mismatch weapon for us. But we struggled a ton in tbe passing game in his career which played into his lack of opportunities as well.
Other than that we really haven't had any TEs good enough to justify being on the field enough to qualify as being under used.

But that's a problem that Auburn has had throughout our history, so its really not just a Gus thing. Hell, even in the Pro-Style West Coast offenses we run under Tubs we had worse overall TE talent than we have under Gus, and that's an offense that uses TEs. Honestly its sad to me because I love the TE position, I also follow Iowa which has a rich history of TEs, constantly putting them in the NFL and they're a huge part of their offense, but Auburn may have the least TE history of any team I can think of on our level. Sad

I assume they'll sign with bama when they say this...if they don't have a real connection to Auburn.

If I remember correctly, we sent Howard a letter in the mail wishing him luck on an upcoming game/season/something and didn’t know what team he was on. I think the letter insinuated he played for the public school when he went to a private school. It was pretty much over from there.

To be fair he had just transferred to Autagua Academy from Prattville that summer.
