I still maintain the option that Slade should have played dt.

dude's not athletic enough for guard, what makes you think he'd be any good at a position that would require even more athleticism than OG?

I just find it hard to believe Chad Slade is the only option to start at guard. I would start Young. Hopefully he rotates in alot.

A starting line of Robinson, Kozan, Dismukes, Young, and Miller would be ideal.

Not always a smart idea to have two brand new startersat guard especially when one is a cross trained with no experience. I'd imagine if Ko zan was a returning starter S lade wouldnt start

yeah... i don't think you can over-estimate the importance of experience when it comes to OL. Slade is a two years starter (three total in the program) and played in Malzahn's system in 2011... this will be the RT (probably Miller), LG, and LT's first start in this offense (granted robinson was on the team in 2011).

Down the road if slade struggles or if guys behind them continue to step up, then things can change.

I wouldn't be surprised to see shade lose his job down the road.

He will be " banged up" and replaced then never earn the job back

I dont know Chad is really slow. I dont think its bad idea to start Young over Slade if hes faster and more athletic. The guy has some experience its not like this would be his first game. I bet by the end of the season he starts.

he can be faster/more athletic, but if he doesn't know the assignments yet it's going to hurt more than if a guy maybe doesn't have the same raw ability but knows where to be and who to block. Granted, we don't know how much work Young has gotten at guard, but it's probably not a whole lot sense he was battling for the RT spot.

if he's as good as we all think, then I'm betting you're right.

This is true, but being that Chad is slow and cant pull as fast as some of the other lineman, he could potentially hurt the offensive production.

I swear to god, I hope some of you people never procreate or haven't procreated.

but how many times a game would he be asked to pull?... 6 or so?... sometimes the LG pulls and sometimes the RG.... or sometimes it's both. Point being Slade pulling is just a fraction of the running game.

and who knows.... dude may have slimmed down some this offseason and is lighter on his feet...

Not likely

Not as bad as someone who isn't classically trained at guard could hurt our production due to a missed assignment.

Experience is important as what happens when your man isn't exactly where you practiced he would be? Which guy do you block when a second guy is in the same place as your assigned person to block?

Experience helps in those types of situations as you have a better understanding as it helps you process what to do next when things don't go "as planned" Practice can help simulate all the different scenarios but a guy like Avery who has worked at RT and LG likely has not even seen close to the practice reps necessary to account for contingencies

There's an article on AUC today quoting Kozan and how the new S&C program and how Russel has helped him get faster/more explosive. We'll just see what Slade looks like on Sat.

Yeah I guess so, if our line looks good then I'll admit I was wrong but I really like Young in favor of Slade.

He could play a 1 tech dt in which his job is to take up blockers. He is a big strong kid, just not too fast of foot.

So far we have discussed:

1. Fraternity seating in JHS
2. Lack of a depth chart despite being promised one
3. What that mythical depth chart may look like
4. Random score guesses
5. Size of WSU
6. HUNH v Air Raid
7. How many times WSU threw the ball in spring game
8. Student ticket procedures
9. Craig Sanders
10. lowspark12 cage match with joeyb
11. How slow Chad Slade is on Saturdays in 2012
