Minus a few plays I wasn't really impressed with Gabe. He had one play that looked exactly like Fairley and then he had another where he got pushed by a little white boy runningback into the end zone. He was very inconsistent.

First half was rough but expected. We made adjustments that worked. Something AU hasn't done since 2010. So happy for Grant, long time coming. Marshall will be fine. Just one year out of last three since he played QB. Adams = Badass, WR's=Choke (except Bray) OL=Better, LB=yuck

I wasn't all that impressed with the OL. They let Wash St DL in the backfield way too much, imo. And maybe I'm just thinking of the first half, but I felt like they didnt really blow open many big holes. Grant made long runs to the outside and without those we'd have maybe 200 rushing. I feel like Mason and Payne did most of the work themselves. I'll go back and rewatch it and see.

Where's the Saban "calm the F down" gif when you need it for Marshall? That first half, he was just way too hyped/nervous, etc. he settled down and had a much better second half. Certainly needs to work on that touch, but we also dropped 3 crucial third down passes that would have converted and kept drives alive. Louis and Uzomah.....come on maaan. You have to make those plays for this offense to be effective and keep the other defenses on the field. I haven't seen time of possession, but Wash St had to have had the ball for 2/3 of the game.

Defense did better in the second half as well, but the DL has to shed blocks and stop those runs when everyone else is 20 yards downfield. What can you say about Adams. That kid has a nuclear bright future. All in all, I don't think you can take too much away from this game defensively, because an offense like this is rare and an offense that returned most of its starters in its second year under Leach, is going to be very hard to stop when they get in a rhythm. First half looked pretty sloppy, as well as parts of the second half, but there were some good moments. Should be interesting to see if they give up chunks of yardage to Ark St or not. If not, we might start to see some improvement.

Good summary. Only thing I will add is in regards to the DL not stopping that draw / run up the middle in the second half. We were in nickel and dime coverages with the Dline in full pash rush mode and we were not well prepared to stop it so it does not surprise me. We will see if our dline has gotten any better in stopping the run against MSU.

Also, agree about the oline. Marshall did not have a clean pocket often to throw in and Gus even started rolling him out. That has to change. Also, our big runs were Grant to the outside. The line was pretty shitty IMO in regards to getting push and opening holes for Mason and CAP up the middle and off tackle.
