I feel like Harsin was in over his head from the beginning and would never have succeeded here but after the Clesi accusations he gave up on Auburn.

It looks like Freeze is building through recruiting at HS so I think he is building a good program but really needs a decent QB for 1 and done next year.

Freeze is doing what he needs to do as far as program building probably as good as anyone could. It’s what we hired him for. Now, that being said, he whiffed BADLY on QB and then doubled down on it. Is what it is, but it was a bad miss.

I love Cignetti and would love to be doing what they are doing. For whatever reason we haven’t made the year 2 leap we need to. That may be a Freeze issue, I don’t know. I really don’t know how any coach would have done with losing an entire recruiting class.

Ultimately though, as of now, Freeze is still doing the thing we hired him for, recruiting. IF that can sustain and long term give us the wins we want, then we are all good. There are plenty of red flags though to be concerned with.

Agree and agree with the QB whiff. Not sure why but maybe it was a NIL issue this year. Who knows right now. I do think he gets a known product this year from the portal to at least give one of the young QBs a chance to get a grasp on things. He will need to get those young QBs some time next year to get experience for the coming years. Whether that be White or Deuce.

Not saying I agree or disagree with Hugh’s position on this, but this is basically what the QB decision was:

I think I can get to 8-9 wins with Thorne, if we bring in the talent with NIL we can. They will be young but should be able to grow through an early easy schedule. If we blow our NIL wad on a one and done QB this year, maybe that ceiling goes to 10 wins, maybe, but we will miss on some younger stud pieces. That isn’t worth the money we will have to spend. Let me spend a little less money to build the roster, then when we have the roster that a stud QB means championship run possibility, legs spend it.

Again, he gambled and lost, but I completely understand the logic. I had a ton of concerns with Thorne but he also showed flashes of very good play. Just nothing aligned this year. Not excusing Freeze as he is the coach and responsible for it all. I’m just not going to beat him up over what was a very sound approach looking at things from 10,000 feet.

I do think we will get a decent one in the portal this year that will be a one and done. There has been some chatter but don't know a name yet. I hope so and hope that one of the young QBs will step up and know the offense by the end of next year.

Oh we have to. Even if we did well this year, 2025 has been the play. We would be going hard for a portal QB for 2025.
