So you're not saying he didn't lose out twice, once to Lombardi and once to Kim. Your just arguing as to why. Not that he didn't stop being the QB both times he had the starting job.
Which certainly can be described as no longer having (or playing himself out of) the job twice.
And so a third time (here at AU) shouldn't come as a surprise.

You originally said “played himself out of a job” not lose the QB battle. I guess I’ll concede his true freshman season but he certainly didn’t play himself out of a job. He was just a true freshman in a battle with a more experienced QB - it happens all the time. that’s like saying Holden, Hank and White all played themselves out a job this spring and now they have a track record.
PT took the majority of first team reps in the MSU spring game in 2023 and Tucker didn’t commit to
a QB to try and stave off transfers which obviously didn’t work out - now he’s fired an nine of the QB’s are on the roster anymore. PT saw the train wreck coming and got out before it was too late.

Did people not see how much the top Portal QB's were going for this past transfer cycle? They cost more than HS QB's.You want a top qb your gonna pay period. Ward, Howard, Leonard all went for millions.

Sooooo, what are we doing for this year's Big Cat.... Lol

Yup, and QBs like Jaden Daniels, Caleb Williams, etc. are worth that for programs trying to build up. Miami has been terrible for years now. Ward looked really good in their spring game. Him helping lift their program and winning 9+ games this season will help Crystalballs immensely by giving recruits something to look at on the field and not just trying to sell them on your vision.

I cant think of the first thing Caleb brought for USC other than publicity from the daiquiri pool boys.
Caleb won a heisman but you spent all your defense money on a QB.

While I don't disagree that pairing a heisman winning QB with atrocious defenses isn't the greatest look...
Still won a heisman and USC can point that out to any QB prospect as long as the coach is there.

Given the budgets most teams are going to have to work with to buy a team every year, I fully expect defense to take a back seat to offense, particularly QBs and WRs. And to convince the top players to take your paycheck, you're going to have to convince them they'll be showcased in a dynamic way, so Caleb will be a nice recruiting tool and long term, a QB like him will probably be the difference maker more often than not.
What's really going to be expensive is trying to keep a four year roster plan happy and in place. Maybe Thorne was our best option in the portal this time, but if he doesn't improve significantly, these shiny new receivers are going to up the cost largely next cycle and probably will want assurance that someone gives them shots at yards and TDs. It's just a radically different game. I don't like it, but if you're going to dump money, QB is the place to do it.

Exactly, and you actually come out cheaper that way. You don’t need to stack top 5 talent around a dynamic QB to be successful. You’ll be spending even more money trying to surround a subpar QB like we have now with talent that can hide his inadequacies.

What he or any other qb do somewhere else doesn't really matter imo. For better or worse Thorne is our qb for next year...... This part isn't directed at anyone in particular but wishing things were different isn't going to change that fact.

You or I could pass the ball to Cam Coleman, but I get everyone's frustrations. We shouldn't be in situation where anyone who's less than adequate is starting at Auburn, but here we are. All we need him to do is perform to a level that's average, and the roster upgrades plus general continuity on offense SHOULD push us to 8-4. Sign another QB whoever that might be, and keep recruiting at a high level and this shite turns around.

We need to continue retooling the OL/ DL and defense. We just need to be smart with it. When Payton Throne throws for 25 TDs we can be happy we didnt throw in the kitchen sink for a sexy name because Payton and all the one or two year bandaids are throwaway means to an end.

For the longest time no QB making over $20 million had ever won a Super Bowl despite many making more than that. Why? The salary cap. You had to have money to spread around to build a better team.
Kinda think the same rule applies here. Dropping $1+ million on a QB to win 3 more games seems short sighted to me right now

Yep me too. Some years it might make sense in that QB is truly the only thing we are lacking. Like 2010 Cam was the difference with a veteran laden roster.
Or Wisconsin when they got Russel Wilson.
Or even 2019- we would have been better off with a prized QB then.
Well our roster this year isnt one of those years.
