Something similar happened to James Bostic when he was young. He got an infection in his leg and went to the doctor. They immediately sent him to surgery. The surgeon went to cut his leg with a scalpel and his leg virtually exploded because of the build up of fluid. They didn't expect him to be able to walk correctly again. Needless to say he proved them wrong.
