No man, I just never heard that before, I've always heard the "Auburn with a lake" part, but not that we started their football program.

Gonna completely explode the Millenial+ generation’s minds with the following.
George Petrie was a graduate of the University of Virginia in 1887 where he observed his first unofficial American football games.
George Petrie earned his PhD from in History from Johns Hopkins in 1891 wherein he took his life-long job at Auburn.
Because of his previous observation and interest in American football, in 1892 Petrie became Auburn’s first football coach.
Two follow-up questions:
(1) Guess what UVa’s school colors are?
(2) What are Auburn’s school colors?
P.S. Late in his life, in the 1940’s (where loyalty and patriotism were still a thing), Dr. Petrie wrote The Auburn Creed.
