If we can’t get Cristobal and his wife, both who are from Florida, and his wife has 2 degrees from Georgia state in Atlanta, back down to the southeast, then this screams failure by the AU power brokers again.

I agree. But it is done. I don't know where they turn
now? I wonder if they do?

If disappearing is not wanting to be in the mix of frickery that was on this board for a few days then yes, I disappeared.

I don't believe for a minute that we didn't offer unless our incompetent idiots dragged their feet/fricked up in this political trainwreck.
Why is there any assumption that
#1 - We offered or we didnt?
#2 - That "We" fricked it up?
Maybe Mario was happy where he was and a raised sealed the deal. His path is so much easier where he is and he is already there.
Changing jobs is not fun for anyone. Picking your family up and moving 3000 miles probably sucks too.
His position is way safer and much easier right where he is. A few dollars more when you are making 4 mil is not that big of a deal

K
If you say so.
You will see how fast he moves if Alabama calls when Saban retires.

Dont even be that dumb. Auburn is not Alabama. I hate to break that to you.
You guys act like Auburn is a top 5 coaching job or something.

Doesn't sound like they really want him.

Top 5, no. Top 10, frick yes. You act like Auburn is Vandy or something.

It is not a top 10 job either. Maybe a top 15.
Dude, just look at the coaches we have hired over the years. Which one was a top 10 hire? Auburn may one day hire a top tier coach but that has not happened yet
We are not vandy and we are not Bama/UGA/Florida. We are somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, and look at all Auburn has accomplished in spite of that. That right there is enough to show you what Auburn as a program can do to elevate a coach.

Im not saying Auburn cant. I am only telling you that other than some of our fans, nobody is looking at Auburn as a top 10 program. Not a top tier program for coaching careers. Like it or not. Every coach that has left Auburn was burnt to the ground. Nobody was ever successful afterwards
There are so many hurdles here and so much frickery.

Because they were mediocre coaches that Auburn had no business hiring.

You mean they were the only ones that would take the job. Or they were the best that we could get. Like it or not. The Kirby situation should have been a big wake up call. He knew what it was going to be like coming here. He asked for control so he would not have to deal with them and was denied. So he kicked sand
And I would prepare yourself for that to happen again. Look for a up and comer to take the job. Someone who is willing to absorb all the bullshite to try and make a name for themselves.
If Urban signs, I will apologize

So it would take Urban for you to admit you’re wrong? Urban wasn’t Urban when Florida hired him. He was an up and comer. Smart was a coordinator with zero head coaching experience. I wouldn’t have let him come in making demands either.

They literally lost their last coach to Florida State with no fight. They let Chip Kelly walk while he was dominating. That extension they gave Cristobal is an offer that we can beat with our eyes closed.
That entire conference is not doing well financially and the PAC12 is miles away from the SEC. He doesn't have carte-blanche to hire the best coaches he can find (we're literally paying Kevin Steele - the DC - almost as much as what Cristobal's HC salary was this year) and there's virtually no talent within hundreds of miles from their campus.
The infrastructure is nowhere near comparable, nor is the commitment to competing with the best.
Yassss queen.

Lanier I agree.
And why does everyone think someone wants to "go back home".
Much easier coaching job where he is, a lot less pressure, and certainly less competition, both on the field and recruiting.
Not fertile recruiting grounds around his school. Someone remind me how many good recruits we signed from Alabama yesterday?
And yes, once you are making 4 million a year, whats another million or two, particularly if your job is not near as secure as it is now.
And what is this nonsense about terrible facilities. Phil Night has donated 800 million to the university primarily for the sciences AND athletics.
Im sorry fellas, but Auburn is not a top tier job in coaching, and we do have a lot of interference, and little patience, and yes a very tough row to hoe with Alabama and Georgia so close by when it comes to recruiting.
Ole Lanier and I lived through some Barfield years, you fellas need to tighten up.

I think the younger people have a bigger issue with this that us old farts. Once Mario is making 5 mil, you offer 7 mil all you want. If he wants to stay at Oregon and is content there, that extra 2 mil wont be a factor. Not for most people. He is still a young guy and he will make millions and millions in his lifetime. Its hard to accept for some but you just cant buy people.

They seem to spend more money on the facilities than anyone in the Pac. That makes a difference. All the silly uniform stuff makes it easier to recruit there as well. He really is sitting nice for someone in my opinion who has not earned that.

While I would have been fine with MC he wasn't my first choice. Give me Billy Napier. The only question I have about Napier is does he have the confidence at his young age to face his old boss Saban? Or coach O or Smart or Fisher or Kiffin? Will it intimidate him? Is he ready to jump into the shark infested waters of the SECW? I think he has the talent and work ethic and I definitely think he fits into AU culture.
Then again the same can be said for ANY guy who isn't already a veteran HC.

Uga has four very good years and now they are out of our league as a program? When was their last NC? They hired a coach, Kirby, that was an alumnus and that we turned down. They hired the right coach and have gotten on a hot$$ streak. In no way are they superior to Auburn as a job. They just have the momentum and we don’t. We get the right hire and it would be the same.
